If we'd kept Mannone .....

And replace him with probably a dud on loan from a league one club

Just have to look back to the summer, to see the reaction of blackburn fans, when we signed Steele as a warning, you let vito go and replace him with the chuckle brothers

who next.. the teletubbies:lol:

I think we would have had at least another 10-15 points and thereore be mid table mediocrity instead of relegation fodder.
Couldn’t agree more. The over the top cutbacks has made the club worth less and even more when we drop down to league one. When we got relegated we sold anyone who was worth anything and loaned out the ones we couldn’t sell and replaced them with loans and shite signings. It’s no wonder we are in the position we are. How not to run a business.

I don't think that's any exaggeration. It's astonishing how many catastrophic mistakes the keepers have made. They should be embarrassed.

Mate he was shite as well. He'd completely lost the plot and has only just earned his place back in reading's side I believe.

Yes, he may have marginally been better than the crap we've had to put up with, but not much.

He's played 33 of 39 games this season.

We seemed to have a good goalkeeper set up, with good players being coached by a decent team behind the scenes. Mignolet, Pantilimon, Pickford, Mannone - all level headed, could command their box and put a decent shift in.

Can't understand why we got rid of something that produced quality keepers and now we ended up with these three charlatans. Out of the three first team keepers, none would be my first choice as they all make too many mistakes and don't communicate with the defence. Why break something that worked?

Still finding this thread right weird. Good man, great in one pen shootout, relentless mistakes and fuckups.

Was anyone wanting him back at S'ton away or the arsenal at home following it? About as bad as I've seen from any human (Steele excluded).

I think if we'd have been in 12th with Mannone, it'd still have felt like an abysmal failure of a season. Most of us never realistically thought of relegation this year, so mid table would have been seen as the bare minimum. I know that is a shit way of thinking about it but it's probably true. If we'd have been mid-table because of one player, we'd never have even considered how close we'd come to relegation without him. Plenty weren't arsed when he left (wrongly imo)
