How Can Anyone Be An Atheist?

But (sigh... I get sick of typing this every single time) you haven't answered the question.

That's only true if the happy clappers are correct though. I think even they would quietly admit... it's pretty unlikely.
Why waste your life on a pipedream like that?
Let it go man its obviously eating you up. :) If people want to believe and you choose not to whats the problem.

There are plenty who live their lives the way they want to, and are not wasting it anymore than you are, but simply think there is an afterlife. Now that we have cleared that bit up you can stop worrying about people who you thought were wasting their life.

Has him seething for some bizarre reason.

It's really doesn't cost the archbish didn't say that.

Notwithstanding the same archbish should still be liable to be prosecuted if he covers up child abuse under the guise of confessional practice. He can ponder his commitment to god from his prison cell as far as I'm concerned.

Rule of law must be maintained and he's just plain wrong. Maintaining secrecy hurts the institution - it never helps the institution. Be that an employee of a church or that of say, a football club.

That doesn't bother me. Just a bit frustrating when people argue a point then backtrack because they can't answer the question. But I guess that speaks wonders about them, eh?

I think you've misunderstood, so sorry for not being clear.

I don't care one little bit what people want to believe is true without any evidence for whatever reason they choose. Clear?

I do care if they then indoctrinate children with their nonsense. Children's minds are for very good reasons, alert, responsive and malleable. To take advantage of that, no matter how it is wrapped up by a religious authority's Marketing department, is absolutely wrong.

I also care if the believers hurt or kill others.

It doesn't bother me too much that they go around preaching and knocking on people's doors to try and convert them.

I also reserve the right to respond to idiotic posters on a footy message board. If you can't cope with that there are plenty of other threads to read, and other message boards too.

Hope that helps.

I have got no idea what the question is but honestly mate let it go its eating you up. :) If people want to have a faith its fine and if people don't want to thats fine also. We will all find out who is right or wrong when we die thats for sure.

Regarding children, I was watching a Joe Rogan video the other week and someone he was interviewing said:

There is a young baby and a three year old in a room. The three year old says to the baby, "Tell me about heaven again, I'm starting to forget".

I don't interpret that as anything spiritual or metaphysical but simply as the human condition, and found it interesting.

Children should never be made theist and then they would never need to become atheist. The two would cancel each other out.

It should never even be an issue in the first place.

ALL children, even those that grow up as the maddest happy clapper adults, are born as atheists. Every human and animal that has ever lived was born an atheist at birth. Religious beliefs are almost always acquired after time spent with elders who have a personal motive for indoctrinating the young.

But according to some posters above that's all harmless fun and it is I that needs to take a look at myself. :)

Crackers man.

Wasting it on a pipe dream?
Tbh, the rational behaviour is to believe in god (pascal) if you believe and he’s real you’ll go to heaven. (Huge gain)
If you believe and he’s not real you’ll not go to heaven
If you don’t believe and he’s real you won’t go to heaven (huge loss)
If you don’t believe and he’s not real you won’t go to heaven (minimal gain from not spending time on thinking about god)

It's enough to just believe in a god & I'll still get into heaven?
Does that mean I can just make my own up as long as I convince myself it's real?
If I can't just make one up then which one is real?

The odds on the existence of a god and the existence of the Celestial Teapot are exactly the same. There is not a shred of evidence supporting either.

Those who say we will only find out once we are dead have not quite grasped the concept of life.
