Had these on my to do list for quite a while has anybody been? I have booked a week up at may half term with the wife n kids can't wait.
Anything else in the area to see? Anything particular in Bannockburn?

There is a visitor centre at Bannockburn. Don't know what it like as only has a wander around the battle site.
Falkirk Wheel is not far away & worth a visit
Think there was a Safari Park (Blair Drummond) on the way out to the Trossochs which are deffo worth spending a day driving round

The other year me the wife and bairn stayed at callendar, we visited Stirling Castle and loved it. I'm bang in to my history and loved every minute of being there. As for other things, on the road to Callendar there's a wildlife park which was good, elephants, giraffes the lot, the kids would love it.

Stirling Castle is great. The Wallace monument is a bit boring but nice views from the top if it’s a clear day.

I was there a few months ago and there seemed to be a fair few people wandering along the high street absolutely out of it. Didn’t have it down as having a drug problem. Maybe I caught the place on an off day.

Cheers lads that safari park may be a godsend it'd be £80 for us to just get in Edinburgh zoo!!

Having said that just looked itd be over £70 for here, still it's an option I suppose

Depending on where you’re staying - Castle Rednock pony trekking might be great for the kids. And if they’re old enough take them up Ben A’an, which is an easy little mountain (hill) with great views.

Although this time we based on the east coast (musselburgh) in the October half term I'm planning on being based on the west coast oban or troon and some of the hills n lochs will be easier to visit then, but I'm writing everything in my note book to remember and look into, cheers lads

By a train ticket for you and family from Edinburgh to Haymarket and it's kids go free at the zoo with presenting your tickets. Check the scotrail website and there's loads of kids go free places.

I went up the Wallace Monument about 36 years ago. I remember being quite taken with the sword. Stirling Castle is interesting too.

Last time I was in Stirling as I walked down the Main Street there was a problem outside the arcades on the pavement while the mother played the slots. I suppose at least she didn't break the law by bringing the youngster in with her.

If I was working in the area I would stay at the holiday inn express on the retail park the other side of the railway station. The Portcullis by the Castle did great food back then, family run spot, and hopefully still does.

as others have said a great city to walk round. Never got to the Castle as just there working but did get to monument and indeed the views are great.
another vote for Falkirk wheel and Bannockburn. Longannet and Grangemouth easy to reach from there if you like industry tourism;)

You get a free guided tour at Stirling Castle which is canny - you can spend a good 3-4 hours there with the tour and there is a few museums/galleries to look round.

If you have a spare day, have a drive out to St. Andrews nice town with good pubs and cafes. If you get a good day has a massive beach. Few too many yanks though.

Bo'Ness railway museum as well, just round from Grangemouth. Can't beat a go on a steam train

Good shout I was always just in and out and tbh hadnt noticed that museum. @MEEKLANGLEYFTM seems to be staying a bit further away than we thought though so may only have time for 1 day in area. Good reference point for others doing research though!
