NHS provokes fury with indefinite surgery ban for smokers and obese

Should do the same for anybody who partakes in any activitiy which runs the risk of damaging your health then. No exercise, no driving.......
But you need the exercise to stop you becoming a fatty and you need to drive to get to the gym. Bit of a catch 22 there.
Here's an idea why not just treat anybody who needs treatment regardless of how their problem was caused. A bit radical I know but it could work.

But who are we going to sneer at then???

Fat smokers are the worst kind.
They're f***ing great man. Not only are they hammered with tax from all angles they won't be claiming their pension for very long (if at all) They should be encouraged...

Imagine a world full of super fit non smokers? They would live forever so pensions would be astronomical, the loss of tax revenue off tabs, beer, shitty food and the fuel fatties use to drive everywhere would be catastrophic man. They're the wheezing sweaty good guys...

because the public needs to look down on certain activities, for example smerking and gluttony obviously imo pisspottery is ok and the full weight of the NHS should be behind drink related illness but not the other 2

But what if in later life you become a fat smoker as well as a pisspot?
Could be like a *cough* mate of mine who got a hamster stuck up his arse. He accidently fell on it when it was out of its cage and it got jammed up his jacksie. Imagine if he'd gone to A&E and they didn't believe his story? Maybe accused him of being careless and refused to remove it so it had to say there? Those advocating no treatment what about the poor hamsters you bastards.

You hamster be making that up.

It’s all very well denying treatment, but it ignores the fact that most people waiting for surgery are likely to be claiming benefits. Refusing treatment just keeps them on benefits longer and ultimately ends up with them being unemployable.

Are they going to stop people who play football and other contact sports from surgery until they pack it in?
What about those crazy rockclimbers?
I'm 67 and never been in hospital. The only time I ever went to A&E, after some bastard knocked me off my motorbike, the doctor asked me how the wound had happened. When I told him, he said it was 'self-inflicted'. I walked out, ripped up my organ-donor card and bought some hydrogen peroxide on the way home and treated it myself.
Finally after 30 years, the system has caught up!

I can see why it appeals but any supporters ought to be very, very careful what they wish for.
Other trusts will follow suit and then start adding other 'lifestyle choices' conditions to the NHS. It may sound dramatic but this small step may well be the first serious enabler to private medical care for all.
Most medical professionals do not agree with this. It's a pure financial decision , and one with a bigger game in mind at that.

Any evidence to back that claim up?

If there's a medical reason the op won't be a success due to excess clemmage then fair enough. I dare say that's the case now.
Surgery on bariatrics is also much harder, and so riskier, do to the amount of fat you have to cut through and hold apart in order to reach internal organs.

I know you're joking but just in case anyone's under the illusion of tax raised on smoking being a net contributor to the economy:

I have no doubt.

Considering the tax on tabs is f***ing mental 82% or something stupid means every cigarette smoked will earn the tax payer a shit load more than it costs them.

I was actually being serious. It would be pretty perverse if you deny fat tab smoking pisspots medical help despite a shit load of their coin going back to the tax man, yet still offer it to smack heads who basically only fund criminals.

The NHS is just becoming a safety net for too many people to excuse themselves for living like slobs and take no responsibility for their own well-being in fairness.

Lots of people take a huge slice of self-entitlement from it too. I've got an elderly relative who is always at the quacks for any little sniffle, her excuse is that she's paid into it all her life so she's entitled to turn up for any little ailment. Never sees the bigger picture of creating a legacy that'll be handed down to future generations (including her own offspring).
