All the Bladerunner geeks say they hate the voice over.

I don't mind it. It was supposed to be transposing a film noir Philip Marlowe type feel into the 21st century with that first-person voiceover and I love those old fillums. "She gave me a look that would make a bishop kick out a stained glass window"

"They don't advertise for killers in newspapers.
That's what my profession was.
Ex killer
Ex cop
Ex Bladerunner"

What's not to like about that?
Harrison Ford's no Bogart, basically. :)

Bloody well reet. Ive always viewed it as a Humphrey Bogart or Robert Mitchum fillum set in the future.
Fillum Noir has always been my favourite stuff and Raymond Chandler, Ross Macdonald, James Crumley etc my favourite crime fiction writers. The voiveovers allreet by me.

Also reported. Expect some searching questions and a Voight-Kampf device very soon

Good lad.

I love 'Against All Odds' - decent story and partly set in Cozumel (been 18 times!) and Chichen Itza (been). It's a loose remake of 'Out of the Past' with Mitchum which I just rewatched yesterday. Not quite a voice over but a lot of it is shown in flashback as RM tells his new bird about his previous. Absolutely class flick.

Watched this last night. Have to say I was a little underwhelmed. There were some great special effects & a couple of clever things but the pace was far too slow & they could've easily shaved at least half an hour off it. It was needlessly too long.

So your example of a good modern take on film noir and voice overs, is a film with no voice over? :p

Seen it last night, a few thoughts:

- the cinematographer deserves an oscar, the visuals were stunning. Same goes for whoever scored it, the sound was superb.

- Harrison ford has aged tremendously well

- was slightly disappointed Jared Leto didn't get more screen time as his character was interesting and he acted the shit out of what little he was in

- would say it was 20 minutes too long and such scenes as the hooker sex scene were overly long

Saw it last night at empire. 4/10. Overworked dialogue, not enough action. Beautiful scenery, if you like long lingering shots of Gosling walking through dusty environments. And that hologram bird is a right sort.
All fur coat and nee knickers imho, but I wasn't a fan of the original neither

After years of cinema going experience, I'm pleased to say I have my pre-movie liquid intake down to a tee ;)

And, if all else fails.....

Trouble is as you get older it's beyond your control! Just been reading that the film's had a disappointing opening weekend in the US. Suggestions that the length of it might be a factor. Which really doesn't bother me if I want to see something.

I'm not that old like! The opening weekend figures wouldn't surprise me. Over in the U.S. they'd probably prefer to watch some shite such as this.......

I wasn't saying g you were old - I'm getting there myself, though. Actually I was pathetically proud that my bladder made it to the end. :)
I can't get away with most American comedy type films these days, that film sums up everything I hate.
