New Music Releases Thread

Far from new but just listened to Kula Shakers most recent offering. I like it, quite an Indian feel to it.

New Beck album out on October 13th. It includes both Wow and Dreams, which were singles ages ago plus Dear Life, which is here:

Get. The. Fuck. In.

Two more down:

Filthy Friends: really very good. Punchy 3.5 minute pop/rock songs well written and played.
Christ Forsyth and the Solar Motel Band: bluddy brilliant!

I think I asked a similar question last year because Laura Veirs was plugging his "The Party" album on her social media. I still don't know a great deal about him but that album is great. His other 2 are worth a listen too.

Just listened to another two off that album and it's enough for me to buy it.

Today I listened to:
Portico Quartet.
Album: art in the age of automation
Genre: jazz

It was pleasant enough with the some nice sound but it was too slow for me, doubt it will get a second listen.

It was rated 5* ( top) by the critic.

incoming, new mogwai lp.

Looking forward to this and LCD Soundsystem this week.

Of the new releases last week that I haven't mentioned and I've eventually got round to listening to:

Nadine Shah: good. Moving a little away from her PJ Harvey with a north east accent thing.
Oh Sees: very good. Instumental tracks probably better than those with vocals.
QotSA: a bit dull.
EMA: back on form after the patchy previous album
Liars: Really, really surprisingly very good indeed!
Iron & Wine: up to the usual standard, all very familiar, all very good.
Benjamin Gibbard: covers of full albums don't always work but his version of 'Bandwagonesque' is entertaining (if by no means essential).

I'm going to the Lindisfarne Festival this weekend, anyone got any recommendations? I can't say I've heard of many on the bill but that never bothers me much.

The radio set. From South Shields.
The twang and believe it or not I've just discovered ac/dc

I knew who they were just never been into rock/metal. But they are awesome

Today I listened to:
PVRIS
All we know of heaven, all we need of hell ( or similar)
Genre rock ?? Pop?

Critic rated it 3/5

It was ok but probably wouldn't play again. Reminded me a little of Florence and the Machine without being as good.

I really enjoyed their first album but the early singles from the new one have been bang average

QotSA: a bit dull.

It was a bit wasn't it? Not sure if I was disappointed more by that or Arcade Fire.

Glad to see Mogwai and LCD Soundsystem are getting some good early reviews, would top off the disappointment nicely if these two turn out be average.

Early stuff with Bon Scott?
No mate. I recently watched that sky arts series with Brian Johnson presenting 'a life on the road' and seemed a nice guy and a canny presenter. So was just flicking through music and away I went.

Av just read he retired from ac/dc 2016 because of hearing problems.

Tomorrow's new stuff: Mogwai and LCD Soundsystem both mentioned previously in the thread and much anticipated here. Beyond them: Cloud Control, Joan Osborne, Hercules & Love Affair, OMD, Motorhead (a covers album), The Knife (a live album), The Script (woohoo!), Starsailor (eeyore!), Pains of Being Pure at Heart (actually being released this time, hopefully!), Walter Trout, The Surfing Magazines, The Rails and Mark Olson.

I'm off to End of the Road first thing tomorrow (means I miss Slowdive and The Moonlandingz, as they're on tonight, which kind of sucks) so probably won't give this lot a once over until early next week.
