Scandi noir/drama recommendations/discussion

The Same Sky has just started on Netflix. An east germany communist type drama noteable to this thread as it stars the lovely sofie helin (saga from the bridge) speaking fluent German. She's almost unrecognisable.
superstar! im all over that...

Nerves. I speak about two octaves higher when i speak terrible swedish.
Sounds interesting. I've been told I go quite a few octaves higher when I get irritated. So high that dogs were barking in the next street. Apparently.

Rita? Her's was a bit of a quirky one - probably to reflect her character. The garden was shocking, as she didn't care about it I remember. Sarah Lund's house was usually seen in the dark - so I've not got much recollection of it.

Monday 21 August she is back for series four.

Oh great. Will this be on Netflix by any chance? I thought she was done with! Excellent news.

No idea but if the first three series are up on there I would have thought so. Been a couple of years since series three ended and I also thought they were done and dusted. But series four from what I can gather will begin slightly different as while she has been away from our screens her character has taken a bit of time off from her classes. I hope the new series won't be too different from the first three though. I quite liked the set-up and humour.

In other news, and crossing the bridge, BBC 4 will be airing Swedish series Black Lake at some point. It is an eight part crime drama with actors from both Sweden and Denmark.

Oh, and just five months and one week till The Bridge IV. :)

Also Jakob Ejerbo's novel Liberty is being turned into a drama series hitting the screen next year. Sofie Gråbøl plays one of the leading roles.

Yes the other series are on Netflix so hopefully this one will be too. Even if she's no longer teaching it should still be interesting. The Sofie G drama sounds interesting too. I'll have to look out for the book. Five more months to wait for The Bridge?

And a week. :) First episode of The Bridge IV airs here in DK (and in Sweden) January 1st.

The new Lars Mikkelsen series Herrens Veje (from the same folks who wrote Borgen) is set to air here in DK 24 September. Ten part series and series two has already been comissioned for airing next year. Even though not a single episode has been shown yet the new series has already won two awards at the annual telly event in Cannes, one of them was The Critics Award 2017. Which bearing in mind they have only seen fifteen minutes in total is pretty good going.

Haven't been able to find a trailer for the new series with English subtitles but this is the official trailer from DR TV:

And talking Lars Mikkelsen, the second series of pan-European series The Team will be an eight part piece and air next year, too. As will the second series of Norskov. And a brand new crime drama with the Danish title 'Kriger' has just begun filming its first scenes, set to air in the Autumn of 2018 as well.

The Bridge IV aside am really looking forward to Herrens Veje. I have high hopes for that one in particular.

bbc4 tended to show it in the post xmas Jan\Feb slot in previous years...

They have turned the movie Der Kommer En Dag into a three part mini-series, which premieres here in DK this Sunday. I haven't been able to find a trailer for the series but this is the movie trailer, which the series is just a longer version of.
just stumbled across this online, any good? the version i've found seems to be the 3 parter while the subs seem to be the film version.

was that any good? i've got it to watch but have never got round to it just yet.

Der Kommer En Dag is not the easiest viewing but some very good performances throughout. I would watch the three part mini-series ahead of the movie itself as some of the scenes work better in the longer, series version. But basically it is of course the same storyline.

I wasn't the biggest fan of The Team, to me it was trying too hard. But Lars Mikkelsen is always worth seeing.

The Bridge IV probably should have its own thread.

I like a bit of old Lars. I rather ruined The Team as I 'lost' the first 2 episodes from Tivo and in a fit of temper deleted the others (no point if I didn't have the first ones!) I'm sure they'll repeat it. This new series looks good with Lars as a priest. How can it win an award for 15 mins? Was it up against anything else? Bizarre that!

I think you should do a new thread for The Bridge IV - probably with a countdown. But you'll get it before us possibly.

 How tiresome would that be for everyone after less than a week. My biggest worry will be to keep schtum about it all as by the time UK viewers get to watch The Bridge IV we will either have finished it or about to finish it. And last year you tricked me to give away that Thure's wife was a ghost and am determend not to let that happen this time round.

I don't know how a series could win anything with just fifteen minutes of showing. I don't know if the critics at Cannes were shown the very first fiftten minutes and then decided or if they were shown fifteen random minutes from somewhere in the series or a fifteen minutes compilation of the entre first series. It is a bit mind-boggling to me, too. The other award was given to the new series by the people who buy series. So on that alone I am hopeful the BBC will be sniffing around already and air it as well at some point. Apart from maybe The Legacy the BBC seem to have bought the broadcasting rights to most of DR TV's drama production in recent years.

I can almost hear the title tune to The Bridge already.

Edit: just checked and series one of The Team is up on Netflix at my end.

Not Scandi, but anyone watching I Know Who You Are, the latest BBC4 offering?

It's Spanish, not absolutely fantastic, but the plot's drawn me in and no doubt I'll watch to the end...

Some excellent topless acting in episode three for those that like that sort of thing...

I tricked you? Yeah right! I'd guessed and you confirmed I think. I'll just pm you next time with my thoughts. But if you've seen it by the time we get it, it will be difficult for you! I love the theme music - Choir of Young Believers - and downloaded their album, which is also worth listening to.

I'll check Netflix for The Team. Thanks.

I think someone (@Arkle?) started a thread about that. Not that topless women interest me. Any topless men? I'm asking for @alexander of course.

I did. 4 episodes in now and I'd pretty much agree with @Silksworth Lad about it. Not the best thing ever shown on BBC4 but well worth watching. Plenty of plots and subplots and some good looking Spanish women. I suspect there's been a topless man or two also.

was searching netflix for something totally different last night, but it turns out that the three episodes of der kommer are on the uk netflix... :)

while i'm here, has anyone heard of "valkyrien"? saw an advert on channel 4 for a nordic noir series they're gonna show soon? i don't know who walter is, but its being advertised under their title "walter presents channel 4"? who ever the fuck walter is... seem to recall they trailed that excellent Deutschland 83 under the same umbrella as well.

Just caught up on episode 6 and I'm beginning to get a bit lost...

Why is the "mole" so important? As far as I can remember she just helped the prosecutor - and as she is the prosecutor, so what?

The amnesia test showed that Elias lied under oath about not knowing Eva, so why is no-one bothered?

The test also showed Elias has no pre-accident memory so how did he remember where the purse and the gun were?

Other mysteries, such as why Elias is married to Angela Merkel, will, I assume, resolve themselves over time...

Otherwise, it's managing to keep my attention. I quite like Heredia - he's a wrong 'un.

Haven't watched Valkyrien yet but I hear it is good.

I think there are a few differences between the Netflix in each country but I noticed the other day that Den Som Dræber and Dicte are both up there at my end. Den Som Dræber I think was shown in the UK, first series is on Netflix. The first two series of Dicte is up as well but I don't know if that has been shown in the UK yet. Oh, and @Son of Stan, Hjørdis, the Rita spin-off series is also on Netflix at my end.

Less than five months till The Bridge IV. :)

I knew there was a one off episode of Hjordis (how are we pronouncing that btw?) so there's a series too? You said that it wasn't so good - especially as you miss Rita's basically. Let me know what it's like if you see it and I'll check Netflix here. I really liked Rita.

Hjørdis isn't as good as Rita, where Rita is funny and amusingly free-spirited, Hjørdis comes across a bit awkward and forgettable. But yes there is a series, but only four episodes. Rita is back very soon, I shall keep you informed on what I think of the new series. If the trailer is anything to go by she is still smoking and her legs still look long. :)

I can't remember if I mentioned this last year but she took part in our version of Strickly last Autumn. Think she finished runner-up but not sure, will have to look that up sometime. But her lovely legs were on show quite often. :)
