For those that say Ballance has proved he is not a test player, let's not forget he still averages 40 near enough

He has had some major technical issues. It will be fascinating to see if he has worked them out
Problem is the last time he was recalled he averaged 50 in Tests and he didn't believe he had any technical flaws that even needed to be worked out

Balance got off to a flier in tests against really ordinary attacks (windies and India in England). Once he came up against kiwis and Aussies with bowlers who swung the ball at pace it was impossible with his technique to have any success. Perhaps he's ironed things out but if not philander and rabada will be licking their lips at prospect of bowling to him.

They reckon his technique is unchanged.

I think the problem is the cupboard is pretty bare, and the runs he has scored certainly means IMO he deserves another chance, whether it turns out to be a success is very much up for debate.

Stoneman should certainly have been in before him IMO. Mystifying how he hasn't been given a chance.

I don't think his technique has changed at all. He is in good nick and seeing the ball better than when he got into the England side second time around. I agree with you though.

No stoneman instead of balance, the blokes had chances and failed stoneman hasn't. Jennings has done ok in his brief England career.

Guess it's just down to opinions, I like that fact when somebody is dropped from a international side that they go away work hard and produce the goods, and he certainly has.

Can certainly see people's point about whether his techique is good enough for England and share that view to some extent, however certainly think he desreves another chance and imo both Ballance and Stoneman are better batsman than Jennings.

Jennings has performed well for England in short career up to now, but a couple of his big scores could have been totally diffrent had chances been held early on, but guess it's thin lines.

Ballance deserves his recall but the point is he's being picked out of position

Him at 5, Jennings at 3, Stoneman to open

This batting lineup isn't up to winning ashes back is it

Jennings done well for lions so was always going to keep his place, hameed failed which blotted his copybook.
Balance can't do anymore first class wise this season but stoneman has also been very good, performed for lions and was outstanding on big stage yesterday. Deserves his chance.

I probably would have went for the batting line up Johnson suggested above. I share the view and concerns over GB's technique but think sheer weight of runs has earned him one final chance.

Cook
Stoneman
Jennings
Root
Ballance
Stokes
Bairstow
Ali
Roland - Jones
Wood
Anderson.

I'd have gone for that personally from what available.

Jennings' last innings in Chennai will have lost him a few brownie points. Shocking shot when batting for a draw.

Surely they should have gone with a younger seamer than TRJ?

With Broad and Anderson approaching the end, we need to blood some at some point
You may be more familiar with county scene than me but who've we got in regards to young uns coming through in seam bowling department ?
