Just signed up for Dublin marathon at end of Oct. Never ran one before and in the last six months returned to running via park run first now out 3 or 4 times a week and running 8 mile comfortable at 10 min miles. Not quick but I'm happy with it. Any tips on marathon training greatly appreciated.
Search for a suitable plan 16 week notmally, that suits your running frequency and targets.

Has anyone ever tried those "barefoot/minimal" running shoes? By all accounts running barefoot is the best way to prevent injuries and these are the next best thing. I'm sick of having niggles all the time so I'm thinking about trying some of these

No. Takes time to build to barefoot. Ie start with half a mile run

I couldn't get away with it. I tried to build the mileage up slowly but still got a stress fracture in 2 metatarsals.

I did the barefoot thing for a couple of years but have now swung back completely the other way and now run in Altra Olympus which are maximal cushioning though zero drop. Comfy for long off roaders.

Ran 3.5 miles today, averaged a 08:30 mile pace. Not what I used to be running at, but feel much better today for it.

I love my Hoka Cliftons for long runs. Have got some Vibrams but never really enjoyed any running in them.

I ran a 10k last night in 52:03. I'm really happy with that time as I've struggled with shin splints all winter which knocked me back.
The buzz last night & today from that run has been awesome!
Sub 50 the target which I'm sure I'll get soon enough as I felt strong in running.

Trying hard to get back into running, after going through depression for 6 or so months.

I've put on half a stone and feel so unfit, went for a 15 minute run tonight and feel ashamed of how unfit I have become, I used to be a good runner. I'm trying to find my love of exercise again.
Did you watch this mate?

Canny inspiring seeing what people have been through and how running helped them. It's on iPlayer, definitely worth a watch.
Some had depression, some had other issues. Every one of them different but the one consistent factor was that running helped.
Certainly made me stop twisting about my poorly knee.

Better than expected return to racing at a windy sand dancer this morning, managed second spot albeit a very distant second.

Good to briefly meet myleftfoot1978 too, that's another one of you lot ticked off :)

Very windy mind I felt like crying running into that wind, went better than expected for me to, great running to get 2nd place

60 miles done in the last 4 days and getting fitter. Well earned rest day tomorrow and a bit of a cut back week then into a 4 week block of long runs. Ouch.

My sciatica has flared up again just in time for the Sunderland 10k next week. Does anyone have any tips on how to deal or eliminate it?

do you have sciatica diagnosed or could it be piriformis syndrome? Both similar though Piriformis common with runners. Google it for cause and execises needed to put it right. Worked, kind of, for me.
