I've met some truly mad Sunderland supporters .....

This is Stevie, there's lots we can't post on here ....... I have some great stories that would have the thread deleted.

But this is about Sunderland characters and the daft stories that go with them, not criminality.

Some of the best stories, on here, are totally harmless ...... gan on, hoy some up ;)
It's nothing to ridicule you Reiver and to be fair this is a discussion we had in private several years ago. And obviously it's nothing to do with the weirdoes who follow you round like Haway/Jardine. Only the Internet could invent freaks like that with their NUFC addictio0ns/personality disorders. My only point without trying to score them was that there was different SAFC stories from different ages.

And to answer your question ours would probably be Stoke in Newcastle under Lyme/ Rangers in Dennistoun/ Hibs in Edinburgh the time before they started knocking Mums and Dads about/ Newcastle the same day at Central Station and many other times that are probably best not mentioned/ Huddersfield on the opening day/ Derby/ Chelsea the time up here after 1985/ Luton the time after 1990 which was probably a generation later under Roy Keane/ Cardiff/ PSV in Amsterdam for the Cup Final with Feyenoord/ Burnley in 1995(?); the battle of the Casuals and the chase after 60 minutes to catch the Mags back from Manchester/ Zulus on the last day in the 2nd Division (when we missed Saffron from Republica- worse than 10 years in jail!)

None of these were events where anyone broke the law and naturally I was not there: I only heard these stories later from others. But these were occasions everyone talked about in the way everyone on this thread talked about moments in the 1970s/1980s. It's just that each generation naturally remembers its memorable occasions. As I'm sure the 25/30 generation will when we're all gone.

One of them has specifically just come on to 'respond' to me without making any worthwhile contribution, as usual.

But gets hysterical if you suggest they're obsessed.

As someone, on another thread, has just asked ....... "weird or too much time on his hands?"

Fuck me.......it's frightening to think where the time has gone............

Eee Aye Eee Aye Eee Aye O
Up the Football League we go
When we win promotion
This is what we'll sing
We all love you , we all love you
Sammy is our King

He was soft as shite really!

And unequivocally the saddest time was the Birmingham game. That Saffron from Republica was indescribably beautiful. One of the Zulus who got lifted (PN) had to come up for several court cases and spent a long time on the swally with us. In the spirit of the stories that have been told so far, one time we asked him how he had found the lad's house who he was staying with after court. His answer: because he was having a shit in next door's garden. Got bless SE.

No one mentioned Sammy chasing some Man City into a house near RP , 76 season iirc ?

Went down for that one didn't he ?

Remember at Fulham 74 ish, in a pub, Sammy appeared having apparently shook off his officer after just being released from somewhere...

he picked up a soda syphon & was looking for someone to hit with it !! ;)

I think you are missing the point. This has been a great read for a 59 year old SAFC fan who travelled with his mates home and away for 40 plus years. Like the majority on here we were just out for a laugh and a drink while following the lads. Never any hint of organised trouble over those years apart from Spurs in the Roker End. ( Different thread). We always tried to get a drink before the game, causing us to mix with home fans, I suppose in that sense we flirting with trouble but it was the way we were. Always stopped for a night out on the way back same problem different people. We were young and SAFC daft and shit happens. I dont think the majority of the posters are glorifying football violence they are looking back fondly on mates/days/times gone by. I still see my mates on aweekly bsaisand after 40 plus years we are very close. All our kidsand grandkids are SAFC and to me thatswhat its all about. To me no one in their right mind should set out to slash/, glass or seriously hurt someone else. A fat lip or a black eye being exchanged is acceptable and was part and parcel of away travel especially in the 70' s. Away games were always good, great memories and firm friends. I still skip down the street when I leave the house to travel to an away game. Best times of my life , this is the point of the thread.

Well since I’ve had a couple of mentions on this on this thread which brings back loads of memories as I was at lots of the games and places talked about and yes there were some scary times in the 70s and 80s, Chelsea away League Cup 85 and again FA Cup away 92 come to mind but mainly I just staggered through it all either too pissed or maybe they thought I looked a bit too gormless, bit like now really. Don’t think it’s had a mention but Willington a big SAFC area (and still is) always had Busses running to games (Bond Bros.) we had an Official Supporters Club Branch mid 70 to mid 80s Coaches home & away which I ran Elerbys from Tow Law, OK from Bishop, Bonds from Willington, United, Martindale’s, Scarlet Band, went through most the local Companies as after getting back several times with windows missing they would refuse to take us anymore. The old banger bus from Spenny, I even booked that it had a petal still bin for the Toilet and the heating was a Gas Supersurve Fire that rolled up and down the middle of the Bus, but it did have homemade Tables so was sound for playing cards which was good because it took us a day and a half to get anywhere. I think I could write a canny book if I could remember half my time watching the Lads and as above there a bunch of us who have stayed great friends for over 50 years held together by SAFC

I was walking home as we lived by the actual Roker park in those days. Ludicrous really, they were just ordinary middle aged City fans, not daft lads in denim. Cant say I was very impressed tbh.

He committed his first murder in 1975 and wasn't arrested until 1981.
Yes but wasnt known as the ripper then

Wasnt the 'pop' gun story attributed to StC?
The pop gun incident was at St James but my recollection it was Celtic not Sammy

Many on here won't know about the pop gun incident. Please give us your account the way I know it as it's hilarious.

Aye the bus windows going in was a regular occurrence. Was on the Blackhall bus some London game think it was Chelsea parked outside one of their main boozers after a bit of goading by us in went the windows. The lad who booked the coach was taken to court. The judge was asking the driver what was the behaviour like of those onboard and were they drinking. The driver replied they were alright till they got past Middlesbrough .

I'll have to be honest here and admit that, sometimes, I've regretted clouting people.

But, even so, they have to accept part of the blame.

I've been confronted by numerous f***ing wise guys who've taken the piss and deliberately wound people up only to be called out.

Instead of accepting they were out of order they've 'stood their ground' and repeated what they've said then taken a clip.

That's what's happened with Sammy, a few times, and the 'victims' share some of the blame imo.

Can't imagine the people involved in the Park Parade incident had done anything to incite StC other than wearing City scarves. There was certainly no stand off, running verbals etc.
I take your point though.

Reet here we go, was late 60's outside the Leazes, RK and the crew trying to get in, some mags ran at them, Celtic pulls the pop gun, minus the corks from under his mac and had the mags pinned against the wall, those that didn't run that is.
Sunderland were in the Leazes that day, was I boxing day I think, held their ground and even took it for a spell.
Was RK, Ham, Rosco,L.Calvert, Buttons,Wilfie, J.Summers etc
