Remember going to Wembley in 85, bus broke down, me and my dads friend and his son were picked up by a Sunderland fan who was travelling down by himsel. Very kind of him I thought
Similar memories when my Mam's Newcastle supporting boyfriend took me to the Milk Cup final in 85 and we missed our coach home. 2 coaches left in the whole of Wembley car park and they weren't ours but one kindly let us on. Bizzarely caught up with our coach at Trowell services I think it was and hopped back on. What a shit day all round!!

Those kids offering us a fight outside the pub. They were actually really polite when we declined
Funny old day I was wasted and finished up being accused of throwing my Sunderland shirt on the pitch. I was trying to explain it wasn't mine. Straight away I was receiving text messages saying I was live on sky sports news

I'd be happy to do that mate, I have every respect for magcatcherhutch who helped me with tickets as a total stranger.

There are some great lads who lived through difficult times that modern supporters probably wouldn't believe.

I'm just pleased my sons don't have to go through what we did.

Really? Looking back I wouldn't have missed any of it. Travelling to all the aways, usually on my own it was always an adventure, always a laugh and once I'd bumped into other lads I was never on my own. The number of 'strangers' I've drunk with and the number of times lads I didn't know saved me from get a kicking. Happy memories.

Mentioning the motorbike reminds me of when went to Oldham in the winter in the 70's , our bus was full so this lad followed our bus all the way to Oldham on his motorbike, poor bugger was hypothermic when he was peeled off his bike when we got there.

Might be different incident, but was it not a midweek game at Preston, and the late JH rode the bike, which he had nicked?

I agree with much of what you say tbh, the good times were great but some of the bad times were bad.

Trapped in a tube carriage after Chelsea, with the doors opening at every stop, was bad, hundreds of them trying to get in.

Almost being stabbed at Chesterfield.

Avoiding being pulled out of our car, by Man City at Stockport in the league cup, by driving along the pavement.

Really glad my lads weren't with me tbh.

well theres a name from the past haggis his surname is houghton he is from peterlee used to travel with any daft lads who wanted a bit,
ex fireman he was as mad as they come we went to boro for a cup match with Roberts tours of sunny wingate city, geoff cummy, Davo, Haggis,Clarkey and four or five from Seaham i think it was big Tom Ridds Ralphy and either Ger or Millie,, what a game that was, fecking mental

Reiver great thread brought back some memories I used to travel on Frankies late 70's 80's .The Chelsea match 85 I was on the tube that got attacked. What I'm looking for is has anyone got any photos of the Sunderland fans inside the ground. The reason I ask is someone told me there is a picture of me standing on the front fence it was in a fanzine /mag around 15 years ago and have never seen it.Has anyone got a copy? Peterlee/Horden/Easington/Blackhall and all the pit villages had there good share of nutters.

Good luck with that mate, there are few lads with photos etc.

If mobiles had been around in those days we'd have captured some crazy stuff.

Stoke away in the FA Cup would've been a good one when the police came into the Victoria pub with dogs.

The bottles & glasses flying through the air looked like Agincourt

Are here is again....bullshit threads bragging about his alleged exploits back in the day.........fantasist.

Some ginger lad starting on me at Colchester for asking some fans if there were any spare tickets going. Apparently I just was jumping some sort of queuing system that I knew nothing about...

He looked canny hard mind, would definitely have knacked me so I backed down very easily

Had a ticket for the home end, but the stewards let me in the away end anyway  Canny day apart from the football bit

That the Keane champinship Season? 6 games to go I told the Barman in The Mount radford we would piss the league, promptly bet him £50 we would win all 6 remaining games. We got beat in one Colchester away 3- f***ing nil :(
