Remember bumping into " Sheff" many times, all over the country.Have to give a mention of " Sheff " & " Billy" ( now from Bishop of dog at QPR fame) who I travelled by train with when we went by train, early mid 70's when there was sometimes 10 or less "lads" at some away games. The stories we could tell !!![]()

Weren't u in a picture I posted last year (that TT forwarded to me) drinking cans of some now defunct beer on a coach with a load of chaps who looked well capable of handling themselves ? Cracking fashion sense tootrue win lose draw say how it was happy days .mind i had sum good lads around me bit older than me from both sland n gateshead peterlee the best ..fact
yaa good lads ..seen you watford last season i was a bit pissed like ..You probably don't realise what a hero you are in our gang .... a star who's mentioned a dozen times every season.
I think we met up last at Spurs or Arsenal last season.
Never, in the field of supporting Sunderland, have so many people owed so much to so few ..... that lad lifted the spirits of 10,000 of us that day.
Think the maddest character I've ever met in over 50 years on the road following the lads was a guy from Sheffield who never missed a match home or away. In fact he used to hitch hike to most games. Often jumping coaches heading north after matches. We were match day mates between 72 and 78 then he just disappeared off the face of the earth???????

mackie from hexham.Did anyone know the 'Sunderland skinheed' who was mentioned in the far corner book? He was from ashington I think
remember seeing a denim jacket being put on him to cover up the cuffs, all ok until he got back to Sunderland, when he apparently went to the fire brigade to get the cuffs cut offIndeed. Still handcuffed![]()
Ha I know this bloke. Well known round our way you will know himNo. It's the lad who nicked the coppers motorbike after we got relegated down Wimbledon and was darting about through the crowds.
If it's the same lad we knew him as Scottie and he was absolutely crackers ...... we'd pick him up in Sheffield and never be sure if he'd make it back to the car.
If he didn't we'd just know he'd find his way home like some manic homing pigeon![]()
Aye that's rightWhat a great story that was.
Didn't he get renicked after going to the Fire Service and asking them to cut his cuffs off ??
Scottie is similar to his surname. We travelled by train when he had his job in the brewery, otherwise he/we would hitch or jump the train. We travelled all owa together for years, home games were always on the 08.45 from Leeds![]()
Hi Wakey, is the guy Sheff you mention the same guy I referred to. I knew him by his name. Is/was he JS?
He was covered in tattoos , including his neck. His family originally hailed from Amble? One of his many tats said Amble. Used to wear his hair in that 70's feathered look? Always curious to know what ever happened to him?
