Id say a great manager was SAF, Coughie, Mourinho, Paisley
Allardyce has done a good job.
Imo you're over egging his achievements a tad, sorry quite a bit.
SAF and Mourinho - big successes with huge resources, otherwise not proven.

Any odds for top half finish yet ?Honestly, I reckon 9th/10th this coming season.
This escape is very different to all the others. Something changed in January imo (rather than the usual April/May winning run). The players are totally bought into his ethos and the work rate improved. If we get off to a decent start I think we could find ourselves mid-table all season.

Yes please. No more relegation sudden death games!12-15th
No idea where we'll be next season but I'd settle for finishing in the bottom half and being safe with plenty games to spare.
I've really enjoyed going to the match lately, and for the first time in years it doesn't feel like a soul destroying experience.
Don't care if he's okay, good, great or whatever. I was sceptical of him, but he looks like being the best 'fit' for the club since Reidy.![]()
SAF had success at small clubs. Mourinho didn't spend much at Porto.SAF and Mourinho - big successes with huge resources, otherwise not proven.
This. Good post.I think we'll finish anywhere from 10th to 14th (depending on signings).
His strengths are that he can organise a team, is quite canny tactically and isn't willing to take players f***ing about. Also seems able to tow the line between commanding respect but also being able to look after the players.
Despite my misgivings about him (which remain), I do think that he seems a pretty good fit for the club and seems to have clicked with the fans, which is a big thing and can hopefully carry us on to better glories.
<< [Andy Morrison, his captain at Blackpool said] He works with the players he’s got to get the best out of them. And if Sam had been given better players to work with I believe he would have won leagues. He’s that good. The problem he’s had is the ignorance of others for me – people who don’t know the man. Just ask any player who’s ever played for him, whether it’s Jay-Jay Okocha, players of that calibre, and they’ll say what a good manager he is. He’s had success everywhere he’s been, whether it’s trying to get a team that are struggling into a better position or a mid-table team into a top six as at Bolton. >>What are his key strengths? I read an old article on The Guardian last week. It was written when he was just appointed by you and I think it's a very decent piece. I just did a search and it was posted on here back then. But still, it's worth a read if you haven't seen it before:

Aye they never managed Porto and Aberdeen to unprecedented successSAF and Mourinho - big successes with huge resources, otherwise not proven.
Has undoubtedly improved us since coming in. We are better organised, have more tenacity and are fitter.
1.Where do we think he can take us next seasons?
2.What do you think his key strengths are as a manager?
3.Do you think that, as an ex-player, he is a better fit for the club, understanding the area and fans and therefore better at communicating this to the players?
