They didn't sack Sam though. They let his contract run and they parted ways. It's was the attitude and behavior of the West Ham fans which gave it an air of a sacking. They were so harsh and ungrateful. You're spot on though. There's a few examples of teams letting go of their managers at the right time. Plenty who haven't too. If we're lucky enough to out grow Sam under his stewardship I hope we can all show our appreciation as we apart ways. We've probably got the best manager out there to stabilise us and I think he will. I want to remember the best and not taint the good job I think he'll do.

Bit premature to talk about us parting ways atm imo. He has a lot of hard work to do. Plus if he did get us midtable stability. Why not give him a shot at getting us into Europe? He would have earned it.

Oh I agree. It was just pondering if all goes as things tend to with Big Sam clubs. He'd get his shot at europe I'd hope anyway, more so in this day and age with the money coming in. Just don't let us stall too long once we solidify. I'm very excited despite the many false dawns. Back down to earth though. Hitting 40 points with plenty of time to spare will do me for next season, just to give us optimum preparation time for the following season. Something we've needed and not had.

I know I might sound a tad obsessed, but I would love it for us to push on to the next level before them kernts come back.

They seem to have more false dawns than we do, brought on themselves just like ours. Imagine if they start next season badly? Newcastle are a genuinely interesting club at the moment for any football fan. Waiting with bated breath hoping it goes tits up again for them. If that makes me obsessed so be it. Hope they're sat waiting for a cup draw to play us for many a year. :lol:

Should be able to stabilise us more so it isn't heart attack season come March onwards as usual. He seems canny in the transfer market so I'll be interested in seeing how our recruitment goes this summer as well.

Most importantly I'm over the moon it's preparation for the premier league that he'll be gearing himself up for and not a promotion campaign.

Mourinho won the champions league with Porto without huge resources. Fergie made Man Utd the club they are starting from the bottom. Did canny with Aberdeen aswell apparently.

His main strength: shrewd. Can pick up a class act like Kone for 5 million quid and there aren't many around who can do that on a reasonably regular basis. We've seen more than a few fail to do that at our club. Sam and his team clearly have an eye for a bargain.

In terms of where he can take us, there isn't that much to choose between say 8th and 17th and so anywhere between that level. The likelihood is around 12th, but there's always the chance he'll exceed expectations.

The players he buys won't be the players who fans would want because he buys players to fit a system. Not that that system is staid because he has proved that he can spot when you need a bit of energy and pace and bring in the likes of Khazri. But I wouldn't expect say a Lens who sounded good because he was in the Dutch squad but ultimately delivered very little.

I would expect he will target a big lad to play alongside Defoe, a replacement for Cattermole - similar type of player but quicker over a few yards, and a winger on the other side from Khazri - any other signings will be bits and pieces - and quite right too: a good team only needs 5 or 6 very good players and the rest can be solid but unspectacular.

No, I don't think being an ex-player matters.

Fletcher is out of contract and Larsson I think will leave to get more playing time. Cattermole I can't agree with you on but I think he'll play far less next season anyway, he's quality back-up to Kirchhoff and a warrior in the dressing room.

With Sam here we won't struggle next season, it will be f***ing bliss being safe by the end of March. And if he has a transfer window as good as January, then we could have an even better season than that.
