Oh great, someone's designed new posters!
As for the "waterfront city centre".....

Citizens of Shields, it is now safe to remove your safety goggles.
They can come to Sunderland Eye Infirmary for treatment

In all seriousness, Paul Callaghan and other successful businessmen are behind this. This isn't a bunch of unproven councillors driving it...they have had the foresight to give responsibility to people with a track record of success.

The people still making snidey comments are becoming a parody of themselves against a backdrop of development throughout Sunderland

There’s no denying that there is a critical mass of redevelopment ongoing in the city right now, but there’s very little in the way of new information here, so I can understand why people might see this as PR ahead of the election.

That said, with people like Paul Callaghan driving this, I do feel confident that the next 10 years will see more progress made than the previous decade.

The article states there's already a commitment of £750m private investment so our city should really improve over the next few years.

Why is PR needed ahead of the election? The election is a done deal.

The PR is all about turning £750m investment into £1b investment...and why not

This is key thing that is holding Sunderland back as city and should be addressed immediately.

Yer Reet..!!!
Plenty Pubs to Re-Charge the Kidneys at 3-Pund a pint...
But Norrenuff Bog-oles to Dis-Charge them...
Bring back the Penny-Slot Gent's...
Complete with friendly Bog-Attendant...
And whee remembers the Cave-Wall Drawings and Stories..???

"there is a real renassiance in sunderland" (the knackers stole that from my thread)

the best thing about sunderland changing?

it will attract new people to the city,

white collar workers and middle classes

who won't vote labour.

the comments underneath the article are illuminating:

Well people break it down over divide £1 billion over 9 years you get £111 million a year. Considering the council currently spends £663 million a year on over half of the stuff mentioned anyway. It's dressing it up to sound amazing when £111 million investment a year is next to nothing when you consider already on cultural services they spend £23 million on it , £29 million on transport, £130 million on housing. So they already spend £180+ million a year on stuff listed above and you are going to be enticed by the promise they will spend less about £70 million less a year than they already do. At first I assumed it was meaning £111 mill from new private investment but the Economic Leadership Board and Sunderland Business Group have key members who are predominantly council based so you have to come to the conclusion that this plan is heavy council rather than private especially because they have the same goals as the economic master plan word for word.

Alice in wonderland that,s another fairy tale.

I agree with previous comments. It's not immediately obvious where this funding will come from.
I suspect they are anticipating a Labour victory in the General Election, with the subsequent, usual big spending by a Labour government.
Do I have to point out how many flaws that plan has?

Where's the model ? We must have spent more on fanciful models of things that will never be built in the last 20 years than on actual developments.

Heard it all before, i dont know why the echo prints this crap. Oh yes the echo are friends of the council. So another plan, another vision, another master plan, another strategy, another jobs boost, where is the delivery of the first, second, third, fourth, fifth masterplans. None because its all Labour rubbish. This council claims to have no money, so expects large businesses to put the money in and the council will claim the credit. What a load of rubbish yet again from dodgy labour!

what an absolute load of garbage this is. ,it's just corporate words spoken by idiots who i would not let run a bath ,we are a back water that's getting further and further back ,if the mess of the vaux site is anything to go by I think I can safely say this grand "vision"will be at best a white elephant.

Does anyone question Callaghan's motives? He's now chair of the economic leadership board, trustee of MAC, a governor at the university, director of Leighton group.... Not forgetting labour party donor apparently. He's certainly looking after his own interests, regardless of who he trounces on along the way. I wasn't in the least surprised to see this article centred on 'his' vision for the city, must be involved in the echo too!

....and probably the most telling one:

People should be aware the General Election 2015 campaign officially starts on Monday and it will then be illegal for political parties to publish obvious propaganda stories like this. It's why the Sunderland Labour Party Echo is publishing this article today.

I like you Boris but.....:lol::lol::lol:

also this comment:

LABOUR PROPAGANDA - WE'VE BEEN LISTENING TO THIS GARBAGE FOR YEARS.

How can you claim to have a one billion pound investment program without detailed plans and INVESTORS willing to invest?
