This is worse than Vinkels fishing attemptsThe old plank would have laughed it off and posted a hilariously witty reply in an ashington accent. Now it's all embarrassment and serious. Sad times I guess, I preferred old plank.

Hope the cold weather doesn't put him off.
reliableSource?
It's what you have to do to get players like him, he's what 32 say he's still got it is it unfair to say he will still over something in two years time?, players like Philips shearing ham crouch all offered something at the sort of age Defoe would be near the end of the deal.
Little RobertLil Rob is fuming mate that he's never had a transfer scoop.
he didnt live in TO during the winterMeant to be just as bad in Canada as it is here.
Phew.Meant to be just as bad in Canada as it is here.
reliable
Why are you so sure?![]()
I'd put money on him being here no longer than 18 months. In the period he is here as long as he steers clear of injury he will be a very important player for us.
3.5 years for a 32 year old with a history of injury niggles and whose game relies on bursts of pace?
Embarrassing business by the club.
lol
i love youdefoe is in sunderland to sign a deal
Can you everyone being happy with SAFC starting the 2015/16 season with Defoe leading the line?
I can't.
I've always thought he was almost a carbon copy of super Kev.Phillips and Sheringham were technical finishers, whereas Defoe's game relies more on pace.
He could change his game - like Yorke - but it seems to me like a short term fix signed on a long term contract. We've been here before. We have a finite budget and Defoe is likely to draw a significant amount from it long after he can contribute regularly on the pitch.
I think he could do well for us this season, and I'd be happy if we got him on a loan deal or 1 year contact. 3.5 years (as reported) seems absurd to me. A deal struck between a good agent and panicky club.
I couldn't give a shit if he loves the lights etc and doesn't fit at all as long as he scores the goals to move us up the table. Fletcher might seem a fit to the club but his lack of goals means that makes zero difference. If we're going to stay up we need more goals so this has to be positive. Football wise Defoe is a good fit for us and gives us something we don't currently have.
My main concern is that he doesn't come across as a Sunderland type of individual. A bit metropolitan. Might hanker for the bright lights. Could be wrong, but he doesn't seem as natural a fit as say Fletcher.
If he scores goals form now till then there will always be a newly promoted team or a London team willing to take him in that period, look at the supposed interest now he'd be at qpr if the board weren't on the verge of sacking saggy face. Can you everyone being happy with SAFC starting the 2015/16 season with Defoe leading the line?
I can't.
Where does he go in 18 months? Who will buy him?
I wouldn't be happy if we signed Robbie Keane.
Would you?
I made the point earlier that Defoe is a Keane-esque signing, only with marginally deeper pockets. Hence reference to Yorke - a player that achieve success as a stopgap, but was also part of one of our biggest issues in recent years, being saddled with expensive dead wood.
My biggest issue with the reported contract isn't the salary, but the duration. Why would we want Defoe in 3 years time?
No one whatsoever is saying that Defoe is worse than Altidore.
The comparison is between Defoe and the plethora of other short-term options that should be available to a sporting director who has had 6 months to plot spending his £4m a year salary.
And since we're talking stats, Danny Graham had 1 in 3.6 at Swansea.
