People who don't like The Beatles should have a listen to the pop music of 1960-63 before they had their first hit. You can't ignore their contribution.

I like this post.

However I'd add that H&S can be OTT. An example: a car is smouldering, there is a fire starting. The coppers arrive before the fire brigade. But they're not allowed to tackle it, even if they have an extinguisher that would nip it in the bud. Instead they have to watch the fire get worse. If the fire engine takes 5 mins to get there and the fire has by that point destroyed the car then tough tits.

It's the removal of common sense and judgement to such decisions that is annoying. However CM is probably correct, this is to protect employees from the petty minded morons.

Where I live, in the places where there's a retained fire service, if there's a fire of any sort, the police will go to it first & see can they deal with it. This is an attempt to save money & not have to call out the fire brigade.

My lass's uncle is a fire fighter & in his town the police went to investigate the beginnings of a kitchen fire one day. It supposedly was very small & the coppers took care of it so the was no need for the fire brigade. Not long after the cops had left, there was another call came through to the emergency services. The fire wasn't extinguished properly & the kitchen was on fire again.

Concurred.

I massively distrust anyone who dislikes the Beatles. I can accept people not liking them, but disliking them is just going too far.

Nobody can argue over their influence, but their music is dated.

The problem is not health and safety (as a mare of mine once said, the alternative is disease and danger). The problem is that too many of the people in charge in this country are petty minded morons who don't know how to apply common sense when they're setting up rules and procedures.

Aye. And people who whinge on about 'Health and Safety Nazis' etc are usually panel show hosts, stand-up comedians and others who sit in nice comfortable offices.

The people who work in potentially hazardous environments - or alongside people who do - understand why, and how, 'a mindset' can create the habitual behaviour that potentially saves lives. So I don't mind someone telling me that I should carry things in a certain way, or follow designated routes, or wear what might be an unnecessary hard-hat... because I know that the people in organisations I've worked for have been injured and/or killed by innattention to thinks like that and I can put up with the inconvenience to try and commit to a safe culture and way-of-working.

I can't stand Robin Williams, he's an appalling actor and not funny in the slightest.

I hate anything he is in, he makes me so angry.

I believe in tolerance, compassion and human decency.

I also think that most people are twats.
