During the first test and then this one folk have been calling for cook to go as captain, root dropped as opener, bell not able to score runs under pressure, kp past it, bairstow technique, prior needs to sort his batting out, broad bowling inconsistent, Swann not delivering, bresnan not test quality.

And where are we? On the verge of going 2-0 up.

Can't imagine what people would have said following the team in the 90s.

Did the aussies really sacrifice a decent spinner for a kid cos he can bat a bit? I know the bit part spinner took 3 but they still look in desperate need of a proper spinner. As i said before, looks like that 98 has been a blessing.

his style is so similar to Atherton's. My favourite England batsmen. Hope Root shows similar character through his career

I still think that should be the plan for now, don't think bairstows upto it, open with Compton and bat root 5 or 6
