This thread is going to be unbearable now though isn't it?

Did you shitters not learn anything from the 1st Test? Or from cricket in general?

It's worse than when durham lose a wicket before lunch at Cls ;-)

What is the problem with Root opening? He's plundered runs for Yorkshire as an opener, too many knee-jerks here, Compton was being rolled over by average NZ seamers and by trade is a number 3 batsman for his county.

Root was the correct choice to open.

it's all about opinion mate, and i won't say yours is wrong
but opening for yorkshire, and opening for england is an entirely different kettle of fish
compton had 2 good innings agaist the aussies in the warm up match

After winning the toss Cook said on TMS that he expected the ball to move about. So why the fuck did you elect to bat first you f***ing idiot.

First and Second test I would have put them in, their batting is possibly even more fragile that ours (although after today im not so sure), we should have got into them with the ball instead of giving them a lift first...

It is but Compton was finding out the exact same thing, fair enough he only played 9 tests but he failed in the majority of them. Root was in superb form at the start of the season and by trade is an opener so was the obvious choice for this series IMO.

i think root is going to be a hell of a player for what it's worth, just think ease him into test match cricket at number 5 or 6, then when he's matured a bit and learned his trade, promote him
i agree with everything you say, and think he will be a superb opening bat (in time....... imo) ;-)

I can see the arguement for that also, but in a short space of time he proved capable and I don't think you should hold back class like him just out of caution due to his age.

Aye, blue skies in 30 degree temperatures. Why would anyone in their right mind choose to bat first?

Of course the ball is going to move around, it's England ffs, I'd be amazed if the ball did nothing.
