LVCC Durham v Notts

doing a job for the team. Benks, Colly and Stokes can up the ante when the ball is older

This. We're desperate for someone to dig in and built a platform for the middle order. Not bothered if he was to take 200 balls to get 50, he'll have done a job for the team.

Exactly, it's a team effort, Smiths job as opener is to occupy the crease, just as Rushy's job last nite was to protect the 'proper' batsmen. You would expect the bulk of the runs to come from Benks through to Breese now.

Borthwick going in a 4 (3, not bothering with the nightwatchman) is an interesting development.

The one time Smith looked even close to being a County bat (what was it, about three years ago now?), this was the kind of innings he used to play. I think we'd all happily accept a 300 ball century.

Theyve opened with Borthwick before albeit with limited success so far. I'm sure that his Father told me that he used to open the bat when he played club cricket. He's no mug with the bat.

saw some of his double hundred at Guildford a few years back. Beligerent but its what we need

I can't see anything in him that shows he could make it as a top order bat.

Sure is. Fair play to him (and Rocky last week).

Excellent from Smith and Colly here, just what the doctor ordered. I'd settle for 6 down at the Close like. 17 overs to go tonight and we're 252-5.

297-6 at the Close.

Smith 119, Mustard 15.

Good days work, I'd say at this point we're slightly on top but there's a lot of cricket left in this one. Especially with us having to bat last potentially against the spin of Swann.
