3rd SS Panzer Division Totenkopf was formed almost exclusively from SS-Totenkopfverbande (SS-TV) members. Mitty is a pedantic twat. Large numbers of all arms of the SS were rotated through SS-TV particularly pre-war and early stages of the war, not all joined the Waffen SS. Later, members of the Waffen SS were rotated into SS-TV to provide personnel for camps until the Waffen SS took over direct control. Different groups in an overly complicated bureaucracy.

SS-Verfügungstruppe, the original combat formations, was the genesis of the Waffen SS, which was created after the fall of France when SS combat units were reorganised.

Members of SS-TV also served in the SS-VT to gain combat training and experience and further complicate matters.

The SS were the first combat troops to be routinely equipped en masse with disruptive pattern camoflague uniforms, a form of battlefield uniform now widely adopted by most armies.
