Police ready to take hard line

The police are definitely wanting something to happen so they can implement bubbles and 1130hrs kick offs in future. I am not bothered in the least if those too stupid not to get in bother get lifted and banned, though. Just act like a grown up and enjoy yourself.

Right, so you are walking to the ground, and a mag, out of nowhere, gives a you a slap, you would retaliate? Cos that is exactly what was happening through there in December. A lad was standing at central and got slyed, of course he would return fire ffs.

NP are playing a very dangerous game. Our city centre is nothing like Newcastle. The bars and everything in general is much closer together so if a few of their lot came through early, it would kick off badly imo. Then there's the issue of NP not protecting the public at all. Easy for a bystander to get caught up in it all and get seriously hurt and imo that is nothing more than NP failing to do their duty in protecting the public. Why not stop potential trouble before it starts instead of wading in after?

The mags wont come into town.

The bit that says they can make their own way to the game without escort. So they can't walk over the bridge and be in town in 2 minutes then? It certainly doesn't say that
Of course they cant walk that way from ST Peters and why the hell would they............

The coppers did a really good job at last December's derby match imo.

Didn't feel at all under threat walking back to Central station afterwards.

That was despite the coppers marra. IF the mags had wanted to go for it in a big way they could have done.

Think it all depended on what time you got there and walked up mate. Talking to @DufraisFTM in the ground and him and his dad saw nothing either. I was on same train and large group with @Father Jack Hackett and we saw a canny bit. Think we were one of the last trains/metros through with most of our lot, so maybe more and more mags were out as more of our lot came through, so there was more waiting on the streets.

I saw two proper fights and a couple of other potential flash points. It was hardly world war 3 but i was amazed to read some people saw absolutely nowt.

The latter part is cos some may want bother or to have a pint in a pub, like the police have told them they are free to do.

I doubt it, no. I've never had a fight in my life and would probably just let the police do their job and not get banned from going to watch SAFC and possibly lose my job because of some Mag arsehole.

One arrest for parking on a kerb in the permit zone - "Mass criminality takes place at battle of The Stadium of Light "

You're a more restrained person than most then. Most people arent assessing the situation and thinking of potential consequences when they have just been smacked in the face.

I drank down the quayside pre-match (so not surprising that i didn't see owt) but did the walk back to Central station afterwards and everything seemed to be pretty much under control. Was the bother mostly beforehand?

That's really going to happen isn't it...........and have the police actually said they can turn right out of St Peters where its all closed off............I very much doubt it.........

What they have said is they can make their own way to the game without escort knowing fine well there will be sod all of them come from the town to the match...........some folk here ( not you) are reading far too much into what isn't there............

So did we.

The two fights I saw were after the game, both on the approach to central station. Both were a case of a couple of mags approaching our lot and hoy a punch, Our lot piled in and then the police came in with batons. (The bonus was on both occasions at least one mag got decked). The second time a couple of Sunderland lads were asking the police if they were going to do anything about the mags who had come up looking to start bother, and the police just ignored them until an actual fight started.

I didn't that much but it was more down to our numbers than the police presence, which as the contingent I was with turned left on to Bath Lane was non-existent until it actually kicked off then they came scrambling up with batons out.

I felt on edge though, especially as the walk continued down through Pink Lane which is about 3-foot wide and has numerous bars down it which were all rammed - they were all stood at the windows watching us walk past and again there was no police about as they'd all ran up Bath Lane to break up the brawl up there.

Possibly. I think most are well aware of the potential consequences beforehand though and are daft if they don't try to exude a little extra restraint on derby day.

What if they say they are Sunderland fans? Or folk not even going to the game? Just curious as to how they say they can do as we did (and then not let them).

We took the Quayside marra

Again mate think about it............how many ordinary folk and SAFC fans are going to get off at St Peters at that time on Sunday...........youre going to the far end of a fart with this and in the unlikely event of there being a SAFC fan they will have something called a ticket in their coat...........
