Actually you said this:
"i dont have the time to sit for hours at a PC screen, im much more casual than i was, time is a large reason for that ergo a PS4 Suits because i can pick up and play"

Stop moving the goalposts bonny lad.
whey aye i can though ;),Can you also point me where to start for building a Gaming PC, i've been out of it for years so nee idea what specs are decent or what Graphics cards etc to go for.
Built one ages ago which served the purpose at the time but left that behind when i moved house a few years ago, so essentially starting from scratch.

probably not getting one for a while but would be nice to have a ballpark idea of what to go for, budget probably about £600-700 possibly more as i said it may be a canny while before i can justify it, who knows the cash may come from not following Sunderland all over the UK this season.

For my last PC I actually didn't build it myself for the first time in years because I found an online retailer that could make it for about the same price. They are also MUCH cheaper than a lot of other retailers.

Basic pointers for system builders:
  • If you already have Windows on a machine and don't intend to use it, transfer the licence to the new machine. This will save you the cost of buying Windows again. Anything from £70 - £180 of the cost.
  • Get at least 8gb of RAM
  • Get an Intel CPU. i7's may be overkill for games, i5's are fine.
  • Get a machine that has an SSD and a HDD
  • Get the highest scoring GPU that you can afford from this list: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html
  • Avoid XFX PSU's. They are very high quality, but noisey.
  • If you are thinking longer term, but an expensive PSU / Case that you can use from system to system for years/decades
  • Get a modern graphics card that supports DirectX 12.

I have to disagree with the idea of PCs being plug and play. I've had a few gaming PCs over the last few years and you often run into issues. I had dayz on one pc and never got it to work due to direct x issues only fix I could see online was re install windows! Other issues such as gpu drivers not working with certain games or causing stuttering and tearing. Games not supporting crossfire and sli so bf4 runs in ultra but metro last light lags like fuck on medium settings. All this takes time to suss out and put right rather than a console were you put a disc in download any updates and away you go.

Summary: PC gaming is shit.

They'll hound you for this but it's all true. Been there and experienced the same issues.

People say it's cheaper in the long run too but that's all bollocks as well. Our very own pic guru @HebburnMackem just spent £1k on a tower add in 4k monitor and good peripherals and your at at least £1500. Last gen of consoles lasted 8 or 9 years upgrades will be needed in that time to keep up with latest aaa titles and that's before you buy a game!

The PC gamers are not playing games for fun, it's serious stuff with graphic cards and shit and stuff and spending loads of cash on stuff and things.

I spent £1K on a system that is better than a PS5.
I can run my business, comment on this forum and run the world while you peasants fuck around with 24fps gay shit.
Wake up. CONSOLES ARE SHIT!

Go get a £1k pc from 8 years ago and play a modern aaa title on it it will die on its arse. It's irrelevant if it's better than a ps5 in your mind.

This a gaming forum we are discussing gaming not running businesses or watching dog porn in 4k. Modern consoles do a great job of coming in a neat little package and plugging into your telly and working out of the box with the absolute minimum of pissing about. They are far from shit and once developers get to grips with them we will see massive improvements in game performance.

PCs have there advantages and like I said I've owned a few recently I'm not against them but anyone claiming they are plug and play or cheaper in the long run are talking out of their hoop.

you dont even have SSDs in your shitty consoles.. that's like 5 year old tech.
If your happy with your shitty 24-30fps graphics, and 900p resolution.. then ok.
Keep licking windows

Does it need an ssd? I don't think they make much difference in performance to a console from what I've seen but would add a hefty cost to one if they all came with 500gb ssds.

I mean your pc is so amazing you've already had to change the psu and spend extra money on top of the £1k you paid for it. Yet i haven't had to touch my ps4 since I took it out of the box.....

Eh? Does anyone know what Hebburn the 4kin idiot is going on about? @Rusty @Gala
Are you that dense you have no clue?

Yes.. consoles load game assets just like a PC.. so of course an SSD makes a difference. Consoles are still in the era of HDD's from the 1990's. slow as fuck.
My PC will outlast all of your peasant consoles for at least 6 years while you still have shit graphics.
