I half agree with you like, but many use football as an outlet for stresses in life, I know I do, its all irrelevant really, but everyone needs something to talk about.

Well I just mean, he isn't that in demand, I just get the impression we are haggling too hard, if we paid the money we could get him. How many players have we signed over the years, close to 10 every season, millions wasted, here is a player the manager really wants, we know he can perform well in the league and in big cup matches, and we seem to be struggling to raise the funds for him.

We spent 14 million plus on Giacherrini and Altidore for example! We just seem to have morals with money on certain players and not on others, that's how it feels sometimes.

I think we just choose how much we value a player and only sway so far. I think its about time. We've paid out big money and big wages for average / shit players for a long time and it seems we're trying to get ourselves in shape. I support it but i guess it means things take longer and we don't always get the players we want. Over time though if we waste less it'll fall into place.

he was woeful down at Emirates

ROSE is surely going to be available now that the Swansea lad has gone there. Worth £6m without a doubt.

We can't afford to be spending 6 million on a left back mate., especially one with a questionable fitness record.

What do some people get out of being so negative in life? It must be a pretty shit existence to be constantly worrying and moaning about things you can't control
They just like to moan, probably in a shit job and/or pussy-whipped by their fat Mrs.

They rue their bad decisions in life and by laying the boot into the club at every opportunity it somehow diminishes their own failures in life.

Yeah very true, just frustrating because this is someone who has played well for us in big big matches, the manager really wants him. I agree that we need to stop overspending on average players, but it isn't like it is a punt on somebody, its a very specific player that we know fits in. It is why spending 14 million on Borini is justifiable, he isn't worth that, but we know he fits in and can hit the ground running.

This left back might be canny, I don't know anything about him, he might be better, it just comes across as us going after the cheap option, someone who might not be quite as good

Will see what Guys says about it.

Good post. However I'd hope we could find someone who can operate at left back as well as in the middle. I could see us going for someone like that Bosnian monster, Bunoza. He wouldn't expect to start but would provide cover for a of couple of positions. He wouldn't cost the earth either.

I've not seen or heard of The Bosnian, Bunoza, but yes a CH who can play LB would work and not shove the specialist FB's nose out.

I get the feeling too, that we might see a back 3 used more than we have in the past, this season. Definitely not every week, but in at some stages of some games, I think we'll go with 3 CH's and wing backs, helping us to beak down defensive teams better than we have before.

Yeah, I think people who think we are going to sign this lad and Alonso are way off IMO.

Could see us going for centre half who can fill in at left back, bit like Vergini at right back

I fully agree Johnson, Vergini for CH/RB and x at CH/LB would be great.

But please answer me one question, in all of your years watching football, how many players do you know who played at CH and also played at LB?

I can think of one…..Paolo Maldini, and he was very special. He was also a LB who could play CH.

It's a specialist position, where we as a team have struggled big time to fill with a 'specialist' in the last decade. Hopefully we get one today!

We actually have a player who can play both positions.

Step forward Valentin Roberge

If PvA comes in wed be daft to bring in Rose/Alonso as well. If we did, we'd have problems giving them both enough games to keep them happy but also we would be left with only five defenders to cover the other three positions. Once we finally sign a left back we need to ensure that the rest of our incoming defenders can comfortably play in a couple of positions.

Both JOS and Wes have previously played full back. Maybe JOS past that now but Wes certainly could fill that role. IF we sign central defenders

Vertonghen, Vermaelen off the top of my head. And John O'Shea played left back for a while.

Also Jones has played LB before, so if we have a CB to cover RB, Jones can cover LB.

Just smacks to me of an easy cheap option.
Alonso, club already know about him.
PVA, Congerton already knows all about him.

Wheres the signings out of left field? What do the scouting team do?

Thats not a criticism of the player, ive never seen him play.

I don't think he can play there anymore and I don't think we're in a position to move our best CB at RB. We need to sign another RB.
