He's got few options though......strikers who couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo and centre-mids who can only last an hour.
Well he plays one of them in the wrong position, started a new signing last week who wasn't even in the 18 today (injured?), takes our most talented player off at the first sign of trouble and launches substitutes on with no apparent plan which results in total confusion.

You don't need many options to turn Burnley over, having a go in the first instance would be a start.

We played a consistent front three last season.....an inverted winger and two forwards, one of whom played wide. Gus has tried (and failed) to replicate it with Wickham out wide and he's now been forced to implement a different formation.....which lacks balance and any real threat.
You're talking shite. We're playing the same formation.

We started with wickham out wide left, in the borini role, with fletcher up top. Now fletcher has been dropped, we've moved wickham there.

"Having a go" isn't how Gus plays it.......It's measured and controlled. The only problem is the personnel he has don't suit the style he favours.

So it's not 433 then......who's playing the Borini role?

Being measured and controlled doesn't mean you can't have a go. Desperate tactics from him today. He is the manager, it is his team and it is up to him to make it work.

Today was like the bad bits of what Brighton fans said about him - no Plan B, no substitutions that can change things, etc.

I still think that Poyet is the biggest asset we have, because he is actually trying to build something and create a way of playing, that is pretty much our only hope of breaking out of bottom six mediocrity, now that we are repeatedly one of the lowest spenders in the Premier League.

I fully agree......I love to see swift attacking football and a high pressing game. I just accept that we won't get that with Gus......It's boring and its toothless but that's largely because he wasn't given the tools to do the job.

It is ffs. Alvarez. I'm aware he's left footed, but he's playing out wide as part of a front three, or as part of a midfield four, depending on whether we are attacking or defending.

It's the same system. It's a 4-1-4-1 / 4-3-3.......and you'll often hear people who know what they're talking about describe both formations as one and the same.

Alvarez is better suited to the same role as Giaccherini and Gomez.......three players for one position and none of them are effective in the Borini role. That's why he wanted any of Borini, Welbeck or Kalou......they're all genuine forwards who are comfortable operating out left.

So you agree we're playing the same formation? I'm fairly sure we tried to sign borini.

No, we aren't playing it currently. He tried it with Wickham and Fletcher and it failed so he's been cobbling something else together by playing wingers and/or advanced midfield players in various combos......It's not what he played last season or wanted to play this imo.

It's the same formation, with different players. Stop confusing yourself.

4 points.....hmm looking at the games on balance it's probably not all that bad. My concern though it's all well and good getting points against teams that will be in a relegation battle with us away from home, however are we certain to beat them at home? We sure as shit won't be beating Utd and Chelsea away again if we need to......oh and our team looks weaker this season than last IMO.

A very good manager would design a system around the players at his disposal, not the other way around. It's not all Short's fault, it's not all Congerton and it's not all Poyet. We are trying to build a club and Poyet/Congerton are still learning and developing at this level. Why not give the club a chance to build something rather than trying to deconstruct the management team and pinpoint someone to blame?

Identical formation tbf mate, absence of proper personnel to make it work.
