Happy Birthday Freddie Mercury

someone who can hold an audience in the palm of their hands... a charisma and a likeability

Queen have done some outstanding tracks......

Don't get it. Did Freddie get his 'charisma' from the nursery school singalongs like 'We will rock you', 'Radio Gaga' and 'We are the Champions'? I really tried to understand the popularity but never could, either the music or this 'entertainer' tag. My problem, I suppose.

Joe Public probably consider him to have been a far better singer than he was, on account of multiple overdubs and the oft overlooked harmonies sung by Roger Taylor and Brian May.

His four-octave full voice range was improved by "Everything we do is driven by you" Brian May? What a load of bollocks.

Hmm. The choruses maybe*, but the verse lyrics however were much more than that.

*The fact they had a knack for penning big anthemic singalongs was of course a huge factor in their success.

A bit strange to make such a specific observation about the opinion of one SMB poster[DOUBLEPOST=1378385839][/DOUBLEPOST]
Not a fan. Of him or Queen. Like the story about him putting Sid Vicious in his place mind.

I heard that Queen and the Pistols got on pretty well, and there's an interview at the time where Freddie was saying he thought punk was great and exactly what needed to happen to music at the time

Ooo, not sure if I've heard that one. Do tell...

They ended up in the same recording studio or something like that, Sid was giving it the biggun and squaring up to him. Freddie cut him down with some quip, possibly loaded with gay overtones. Can't remember what exactly was said. It'll be on YouTube somewhere, think it was Johnny Rotten who was telling the story. Saying Sid was soft as shite but liked to talk the talk.

Sid: Ah, Freddie Platinum.....still trying to bring ballet to the masses?
Fred: Ah, Mr. Ferocious.....yes, still trying my dear.
.....or something similar. Henry Vlll would have been 622 had he lived.

You either like or dislike, like a lot of bands.

The exchange was about ballet to the masses, Sid Vicious was pissed.

Aye that was it, bit shite really like.

So a dead, albeit talented fella, gets a birthday thread, whereas poor big sharp teeth doesn't :(

You shower of bastards.

(I'm pretty certain this happens every year).

He's probably bumming rent boys in the after life now, carrying on where he left off when he died. Probably best mates with jacko and savile

Freddie liked his men and their arses (Rudolf Nureyev was a surprise), but there was never any inference of any Yew Tree-type activities.
