Yann M'vila - target or not?

A 6 month deal with a year extension should we get promoted wouldn't hurt anyone. He'd bring a monumental amount of experience and would instantly be the best CDM at the club.

But I'd be absolutely amazed if the club were even thinking about doing a deal
I tend to agree.
Reports that contact has been made with his agent sounds like click-bait generating guff.
Make up a story to sound like fact based on a popular SMB thread, sit back and watch your story get linked back to the same thread, sit back and watch the Sunderland Echo also run with your fake story.

I'm not saying you're wrong but I remember the statement from the club, seemed an odd thing to be releasing an official statement on, especially if it hadn't been in writing.
Looking at it, I might have my dates wrong. Seems a lifetime ago tbf. I distinctly remember his social media posts during August but can’t remember what happened after that. Might have been that his contract ran out in january

Edit: found it. You’re right. He must have signed an extension at Rubin because he left for st ettienne two years after.

M'vila actually like the post which said it though so seems like its true

you're right. We didn't sign him because we could get him for nothing when his contract finished. They were asking to much money for how long he had keft, in the club's opinion. They did a formal deal with him but got relegated and he asked to be released from the agreement, which we did.

We hadn’t been relegated yet because the statement was in December but we were at the bottom.
This is what Bain said

"There was a three-and-a-half-year agreement in place. However, after discussions with the manager we have decided not to enforce the contract.

"Any player that we bring to Sunderland Football Club must be wholly committed. Yann M'Vila will therefore not be joining us in January and we wish him well for the future."

He was due to join January at the expiry of his contract (contracts run Jan-Jan in Russia) but unwound the deal in December

I think we actually had a pre-contract agreement for January but we released him from it, I know they released a stament.

I had a look and it does read along them lines, but it's not legal to do that. RR at the time seem to describe it as being more than a gentleman's handshake, but less than an actual obligation. Fuck knows what that means.

It was 5m agreed price, apparently and he had 6 month left on hhis contract. By then, ES had cut the purse strings, which was fair enough given how much we had squandered on admin and playing staff.

BSA left the same summer and we didn't recover as a club, in any way, until Golum and Kid came along.

Yeah it was definitely £5m in the summer when he had 6 months left, but we chose not to pay the club (Rubin Kazan) and play the long game to get him for free in January, but that pissbiscuit Moyes decided to spunk his budget on Ndong instead of just paying the 5 million and getting M’Vila in the summer🤦🏻‍♂️
