Yann M'vila - target or not?

This is where the rigid 'model' of only signing youth falls flat. Ekwah for instance would greatly benefit from an older professional either playing or training alongside him and putting a rocket up him. I don't think Evans has been fit or training the entire time Ekwah has been at the club.
We don't only sign youth though. Hence Batth, Pritchard, Dack, Evans, Defoe
We just won't pay a fee for older players

I was on the fence. After a bit of research. It would actually be an incredible signing. Even considering the model. You get him for free. He gets us promoted and then plays well in the premier league next season. You could sell him onto a promoted premier league team the following year for a profit
I dont think we would make profit on him due to his age. I would say to him sign for 6 month and if you play 15 games then we will extend for a further year on better wages

Could he be any less effective than Ekwah and Bellingham have been of late? Bellingham in particular is not being chosen on merit, he is being selected because of obvious favouritism and it needs to stop. Against Newcastle he looked as though he was treading treacle. M’Vila woujd be levels above current options.

Appreciate it's a much higher risk to sign older players as they tend to demand higher wages, naturally want as long a contract as possible, and any that are deemed good enough for a top end Championship side would likely have a lot of interest. We've seen with Dack why it's not always pretty, and now we're stuck with him on high wages for X amount of years now. However, we should be aiming for more than we have in the last 2 or 3 years. As much as I like the model, it's strange that we haven't signed more, imo.

We've been crying out for some experience in the middle, especially since Evans' injury which feels like a lifetime ago. Really excited by this.

Dack is on a 12 month contract

I think the value on this kind of signing is secondary. Will his experience and knowledge help develop Ekwah, Matete and Neil and will that add increased monetary value to those players?

Sure he'd do a job for us. Jake Livermore is 34 and just scored two crackers at the weekend.

Willian is 36 bet many would take him here. Milner is 38. Defoe was a similar age when he signed for us the first time. Quinn was entering his 30s when he signed for us and how good a player was he for us. As long as players keep themselves in good condition early 30s is peak playing career these days.

Batth, Pritchard, Evans & Defoe all arrived in the 21/22 season. All free and granted Batth, Evans and especially Pritchard have turned out to be great signings. Its been a while since we made an experienced signing (ignoring Dack because he's garbage and was signed to appease Mowbray), its time to get some more experience in and give the young lads a hand.

Dack was a very poor signing. The bloke is not interested in football and is, imho, overweight and lazy. We should just pay him off as he is contributing nothing and unlikely too.

On the other hand mvilla is a top pro and we need his experience in the squad now.

I entirely agree but these are the choices, sign dack and you're less likely to be able to sign mvila.

Hm! Didn't he ask to be released from his agreement to sign for us, because we had been relegated?

He didn't have any agreement to be released from iirc, but I think there was a rumoured verbal agreement, but he can't be blamed for that. He's a professional footballer who was in his mid-20's at the time. Joining a Championship club who were in free-fall would have been career suicide. He went on to play 39 times in Europe after deciding not to join us instead.
