Wrestling - Part 3

All you get is filler. A few matches and a load of adverts for corporate tickets and different brands. I remember between matches on a PLE it was all radgey interviews with Mean Gene. Now it's 'Watch this boxing match" or "The World Cup is coming." Just takes you out of the escapism.

Why can't they film a load of dark matches (I know that's kind of an oxymoron) and let us watch them individually? Netflix would be able to feed back to the WWE which ones people were into.

Agreed. There used to be loads of fun, daft and occasionally just bizarre segments throughout all shows and Vince would usually fit everyone in on TV somehow, now watching a PLE is painful. Spotting rappers in the crowd and endless adverts.
They aren’t building any new stars. The whole thing is just really really stale.

Agreed again - it's just the same old main eventers and matches being recycled.

Tried again to watch the recent shows. Absolutely atrocious. I’ll stick with the old stuff on Netflix.
Pretty much where I am.

The PPVs under Vince were 2.45-3 hours long, with around 8-9 matches, and limited product placement by comparison to now. I much preferred them.

I really miss the days of WWF and WCW duking it out. WCW went downhill fair enough, but it was salvageable imo.

That was largely still the formula towards the end of him but you have to also remember the absolute shite he put in those 3 hours towards the end. I dare you to go back and watch Great Balls of Fire ppv or HIAC PPV with Rollins and the Fiend... Honkin'

The product placement is utterly rank mind. I wasn't arsed with the one thing in the middle of the ring but it's gone ott now.

Tbh, my days of regular watching ended in 2002, with only sporadic interest thereafter.

WCW going was quite a big moment for me.

I started to drift off around 2005. Never been as interested since

WCW was plop 2000-01 but I did enjoy it previously. I find myself going back a lot to watch their old ppvs and Nitros.

Some of the old stuff contains some absolute gold.

The War Games main event from Wrestlewar 1992 is an absolute belter. Flair vs Vader from Starrcade 93 is great too.

And if people think the WWE version of Rey Mysterio is good, they should've seen him as a cruiserweight in WCW.

That's the best War Games match. The ones in the 80s are good aswell (not keen on 89 though). Steiner Bros Vs Iizuka and Fujinami on the same WrestleWar 92 is absolutely mint n'all.

Again it justifies why I stick to the era of my childhood 😎. I've tried to get into the new stuff but couldn't for a few reasons. One of them being hoff not being around. The lack of individuality in most of them and the clinical and stale look of the product. 50/50 booking means that no one stands out.. jobbers are a huge miss as it protects the roster and hoff used to say it was an excuse for the stars to stretch their legs and show their moves off..

They had future stars coming through too.
The likes Styles and above average Mike Sanders seemed to have something about him.

Could argue the main event scene is Jurassic. Cena, Punk, Orton, Lesnar, only a matter of time before the ghost of Hogan gets another run on top.

Totally agree that Zayn needs a character change too, so bland. Throw Bayley into that mix as well.

Also, why did they bring back Rusev and Black? They've been nowhere near a PLE.
I'm hoping once Cena does finish his Farewell Tour his final match will be against Bron Breaker who absolutely batters him.

I dunno, since they moved away from the Network it's felt a pure greed decision. Netflix subscription for TV shows and ESPN for the now reinstated PPV's ;)
