I find it hard to get enthused about what is turned out these days.
Each night was about 3+ hours with about 6 matches and a ton of filler and product placement. The work is far too often sloppy and rushed, in a need to quench the thirst of fans who don’t like a more steady pace.
People taking a superkick and basically no selling it and immediately coming back with their own. Shite.
It’s basically an overly rehearsed/choreographed spot fest that doesn’t flow naturally to me. So much so, when it goes tits up they haven’t got a f***ing clue what to do.
Yesterday, a pal sent a link to a match from one of early WCW Superbrawl’s. Luger and Sting vs the Steiners. Hard hitting, physical, slamming and suplexing the shit out of eachother in front of a hot crowd (the Summerslam crowd were flat as a witch’s tit for long spells). That’s professional wrestling to me.
Sadly, those days are largely gone. I don’t actually think a lot of WWE fans like the wrestling bit.
FWIW, I liked the fact that Punk vs Gunther was a wrestling bout. Seen plenty better, but at least it was more my style.
Been discussed on here a bit. The clips I've seen I've thought - why the fuck are they flagrantly showing this, but then you realise, those incharge have completely disappeared up their own arse. They're more interested in showing off how "great" they are than having their TV good and make sense.
I didn't watch any of it, was sick as a dog and I reckon I had a better time
My wife found it interesting. I think people who don’t really like wrestling might feel the same and give the wrestlers a bit more kudos.
To me, I was shocked that they laid it as bare as they did. It was akin to David Copperfield explaining how he does all his tricks.
I’ve known wrestling was a work since my mate’s dad clued me in about aged 9 or so. I know we live in a different time, but there is absolutely no mystique anymore.
I watched a decent chunk of Summerslam 93 on Saturday.
Not a great show, but even so, I enjoyed it so much more than the current stuff.
I’m just old!
