We’ve had people suggesting Cattermole was one of the best English players not to play for England. So using that logic Kevin Ball should have been captain
 
The Vitrol of hate that used to rain down on Bally from the home supporters wouldn’t of helped his chances of being called up.. but no he wouldn’t, 100% in effort, not an international class

Cattermole was actually an underrated player apart from in the NE and Wigan. He was a much better player than Bally. He was also capped at every level for England upto senior level. He could genuinely be aggrieved that he didn't get capped when the likes of Shelvey, Barton et al all got at least one chance.
