Why does nobody care?

Aye blame the fans eh? All our fault for doing nowt except continue to turn up in our thousands (yep there was incredibly around 22-24K there on Sat) to watch- basically nothing!

Absolutely no chance, don't count official attendance as half the season ticket holders have fucked it off.

Looked about 15k there at most, one of the smallest crowds we've ever had that I can remember.

We're a footballing backwater these days, no longer part of the Premier League circus we're not news to the national media, in fact if you think about it we hardly get a mention in the local press/media except for all the wrong reasons Gibson, Johnson, Bardsley, Byrne etc.
Hardly get a mention in the local press?
The Sunderland Echo gives wall to wall coverage of SAFC.

A mixture of 2 things imo:

1. Sunderland being an unfashionable club in the media in comparison to the usual darlings.

2. Little uproar from the fanbase does contribute imo. Im not a big fan of protesting for little things as you see at clubs like West Ham and Newcastle however I think fans have a right to express their feelings as paying customers.

I think our fans are very much alike, I've seen comments on here about "looking like Mags" and we are the same - if you dare suggest protesting or flying flags/wearing club scarfs at the game its "Kopite behaviour"

Sadly having neighbours who are often laughed at for their fanbases antics must create an element of not wanting to present ourselves in the same manner. Eventually our fans started questioning Kenwright but he took the piss for well over a decade.

Let's leave aside people inside the club, owner, CEO, players etc

I just don't see our situation being mentioned anywhere outside of our bubble. No ex-players speaking out. No pundits.

The "we are a big club" arguments are tedious normally, but we are a pretty big club, heading for back to back relegations in such awful fashion and it feels like nobody cares.

Why hasn't Quinny even said anything?

Is it because we are stuck in the north east or something?

So much football coverage, 24/7 stories, mostly about fuck all, this is a real big story surely. I;m at a loss with the whole thing, feels like we have just been left to die and nobody outside the fan base gives a shit.

Where have you been for the last year? Several ex players and pundits have.....Another clueless post!

Bolton, Blackburn, Charlton, Portsmouth, Blackpool, Southampton, Leeds, Coventry.

Off the top of my head that's 8 clubs who quickly fell from the premiership to at least league one in recent times. The only thing that ever gets talked about is how crazy the owners were at Blackpool, Leeds and Portsmouth. Apart from that nobody outside their fans gives a toss and why should they? Even if they did, what impact do people think it would have??

It''s a bit like that old boiling frog story..where he never jumps out the pot cos the temperature has been gradially increased so doeent notice the incremental discomfort until he's boiled alive. That;s how the last six or so years have seemed...

Did they protest to get rid of the “cockney mafia”?

That worked, Short is trying to get rid of the club, what are we meant to protest about?

Dropped the price, wants out,we want him out.His gamble on spending this year has backfired,he knows it,we know it.

But fishy reckons as some sort of Lech Walesa he knows best

I seen his latest novel and thought “I’m not wasting my time”.

Lives in the land of make believe.

They think we deserve it for doing the Poznan when City won the league

Attention for what?
The original question was "why does nobody care?", the OP then asked why the plight of your club isn't getting media attention.

A major reason why nobody is paying attention is because rightly or wrongly, nobody is doing anything to get attention. A question that will always follow a remarkable protest (however unclear the message, or how poorly conceived) is "Why are they protesting?".

The "Cockney Mafia" banners, the mock funeral, the march, the walk out, the PardewOut.com website all got attention from local or national press.

West Ham's pitch invasion, Charlton's various protests, Blackpool's, they all got national media attention too. Which is what the OP was calling for, wasn't it?

If you want to know how national media attention would benefit your club, that's a different question. One my replies are, as yet, not intended to answer.

No one cares about north east football. We are a marginalised city, in a marginalised region......The view of north east football is no different, them up the road need a constant 24hr PR campaign to remind the nation they're still there and relevant

The thing is that you're right...and the PR campaign makes no difference.
As far as the rest of the world is concerned footie starts in Manchester.

The point made by mags on this thread is dead right.

The passivity and meekness of Sunderland’s modern day support is astonishing.

Thinking back a few years another example, when Brighton got slung out of the Goldstone Ground by Michael archer, Demos, “archer out” graffiti all over Brighton. Nothing in Sunderland at present.

Both Cowie and Murray got a fair degree of stick and the end of their tenures that made the press.

Our support has changed in the last decade.
