When Newcastle nearly won the League

What a wonderful season. What football is all about.
The Liverpool away game is one of those games now where despite the outcome you feel grateful to have been at. Same as Leeds away on the Easter Monday. Remember winning and still thinking we had a chance, got a phone call of the old man saying the messiah has just lost the plot on sky and reality kicking in that he had lost the plot.
With age and hindsight I can now look back on that season with nothing but happy memories. I loved it from hammering spurs on day 1 to the massive arse fall out at the end.
It was classic messiah and I’ll love the man umtil the day I meet my maker.

‘Messiah’ twice in one post, Im not falling for you being serious, you are taking the piss aren’t you? In the way we would, you are aren’t you

Comic genius Graham Fenton managing to make grown men cry while making others piss themselves laughing at the same time.

A very far from unbearable time.

I actually agreed with Keegan's sentiment during his rant. Fergie should have been hauled in front of the FA for his comments.

I thought that at time but looking back Fergie was being Fergie.
Now I just think in a world of sanitised and mundane interviews, Keegan in that iconic headphones on pose, giving it six nowt is something I’m very proud of. For his many many faults I’m now very proud of that little bit of history.

Or playing the mind games he excelled at. I think maybe Keegan tried to play him at his own game, he was never going to win that game, Fergie was the expert.

Fuck all to do with mind games, I remember the media coming out with that chestnut.

Man U had the better team, Newcastle were garbage away from home.

I can understand him having a dig at the Leeds players, because him and Wilkinson were great mates (and he framed it from the point of view that their inconsistency was unjustifiable), but he pretty much accused the Forest players of throwing a game.

The FA should have smashed him, and that was my opinion watching his interview straight after the Leeds game...I've never changed it just because Keegan had a comical fit.

Haha , beat me to it Hank , was just going to post , "can anybody remember that far back when that insignificant club almost did a leic' ?"

can anybody remember the day after blackburn beat em , breakfast TV hada bunch of mackems in the studio to sing the "cheer up peter reid " song and the presenter asked am one at a time , " and what's your name " ? and every one of em said ----
GRAHAM FENTON.
:lol::lol::lol:

That would be "the big breakfast" on channel 4 ??? If so that would be my mate Tom Lynn and co, Peter Andre was presenter and the lads took penalties against John burridge at roker park 8-)

I assume if they had won keegan would get the credit, but because they didn't it was all the fault of Freddie Shepherd / John Hall?

I agree with you mate, I was a young’n then and football was brilliant in the 90’s. Won’t ever be beaten IMO.

However, at the same time, I love the fact you’s thought you’s were the bees knees and won absolutely nothing

We won the hearts of a nation.

Way too much is made of that interview. I wasn't around for football at that time (well I was about 2) and having looked into it Newcastle were already falling apart a bit then, mostly because their defence wasn't good enough. They missed out because of football, not 'mind games'.

We won the hearts of a nation.
