I think that one of the reasons was that from the start, it was its own self contained website, not the "footymad.com/[insert team] type website that sprung up everywhere. Just seemed to be a statement of intention of where the future lay for the site.

It was helped enormously by the utterly hilarious looney were here right at the start. It truly became a community. It still is, not to the same extent, but when push comes to shove, we look after each other. The nonsense that we used to get up to back in the day was just hilarious.
