Its just dirty and depressing, take the criminally underused coastline away and it's a shit hole tbf. It looks worse everytime I visit
Really? I think it's definitely improved over the past 20 years. Agree it can be a bit scruffy but even there they've done some good work recently in cleaning up the pavements. I guess the depressing thing is a state of mind. Unfortunately, and I hate saying this, we have too many people who are not just uneducated but seem to revel in their ignorance. Sounds condescending but changing the way people think seems to be the biggest challenge.

Think I notice it more cos I'm only there a few days a year. Agree completely with the rest of your post about attitudes though

A city with large resources such as location and people which apart from a spell in Anglo-Saxon times has never quite lived up to its potential. A city that’s waiting to happen again with the right leadership and investment.

Must admit that if I've been away with work and get back to the train station during the day then I feel like a proper freak wearing a suit  I hate sounding snobby about people cos I'm from nowhere special but it just feels a bit insular sometimes.

My thoughts exactly mate

It's a beautiful city with no real no-go areas and plenty of nice areas to live. Loads of class parks too and the beaches are amazing.
Unfortunately, due to a load of factors, the city centre looks like it's recovering from a nuclear winter that hit sometime around 1984.
Totally agree with this

Put the lack of investment aside, it's a brilliant place to live with everything you need on your doorstep..

Visit Northampton. Sunderland is like Utopia in comparison.

Don't agree with it getting worse though. You can't tell me that Keel square doesn't look better than that big fuck off roundabout outside the coursts.

Keel squares been there years now, it was an improvement but the lack of similar works just makes it meh

Was a Town full of nice, hard working people that loved a good time.

Is, still a canny place to live, but a few to many scroats and poor work opportunities for the decent folk here.

Aye, the place urgently needs a scrotal ethnic-cleansing and business opportunities drive.
