Yes but 13,000 go to the city centre is the point.

No offence to anyone on here who has attended, but Sunderland University is pretty shit for most subjects and isn't exactly attracting the kind of students that will go out and spend money, they're all at Newcastle or Durham. A lot of Chinese students as well who for the most part don't integrate well, they stick to their own shops, their own places to socialise etc. The university campus is spread throughout the city as well, there's no city centre campus that I'm aware of?

Very few people work in the city centre, and those that do are working in retail and other low skilled (paid) roles. That's why the town is on its arse. It needs an injection of white collar workers with a few quid in their pocket who can afford to stay out after work for a few beers or a meal.

No. Wrong phrase but they have in excess of 13,000 people attend every week. More than any other organisation in Sunderland. And it's in the city centre.
Half of them won't even go in the bridges, I'd bet. They'll do their food shopping, and that's it. They'll be too busy attending classes, and spending some free time studying

Well it’s not every week is it, and St. Peter’s isn’t in the city centre
It might be. It has that many students but I haven't checked their time tables. I don't know how many go to St Peters, just across the bridge but there are a lot of people go to the area during the term and it is still, dead.

They go home for 2 months in the summer and at Christmas. It’s not every week. You don’t need to check their timetables. St. Peter’s is hardly just over the bridge either.

You must have a degree in pedancy. Have they moved it? It was just off Same Dorothy before?

A lot of Students at Sunderland prefer to live in the likes of Jesmond and get the metro through. Can't say I blame them too much.

Sunderland Uni has an expanding school of health and it's nursing programme is 5th in the country in recent ratings

It is but it’s still a canny hike to the city centre for them, not worth mooching over at dinner time for example.
And it’s pedantry

For all the money spent on it and for all the propaganda telling us how lucky we are to have a propeller of a ship to walk past....the town centre is an absolute shit hole...lets just be honest.

Nobody can honestly say they enjoy walking down the boulevards of Blandford Street or Holmeside. Or delights in sitting back and watching the world go by in high street or Fawcet street.

The opportunity to really regenerate has come and gone. Money spunked away on Sunnisde that nobody visits and that isn't "connected" in any way to the rest of the town.

So forgive me my pessimism with Vaux, but this council has done nothing, NOTHING, to warrant anything else.

Sunniside will never take off while the Norfolk hotel and the other hostels and needle exchange are there. It could be beautiful down there too. Absolute waste

Piss off and move somewhere else then?

Heres a challenge. Say something positive. You say you love the place. So go on tell us why

Plenty of White collar workers don't earn that much money.

Feck me...now the uni is shit...like the new bridge...the bars, the restaurants, the theatre, keel sq, sunniside, people come on here just to slag off sland....the new office development at vaux is too square...having to pass through Durham most days there's building going on there too, guess what....they're square!!.vaux ain't even finished yet and it's getting slagged...I wish people would just feck off and go and live in ncastle, cos everything is fab there!..no development in sland for years and you're moaning....now things starting to happen...moaning!...
My Mrs works in town in retail, she constantly speaks to people from all over the country who think sland is great...be positive man...I've been to lots of worse places than sland and lots of better places than ncastle.
ncastle has raped the rest of the north east of funds for years, that's the reason devolution is not wanted south of the Tyne..it'll not be long before Northumberland starts moaning they've took all the money.

Read the rest of my posts on this thread before jumping in with that shit. I've been positive throughout.

While I agree with you, @James has been positive

You'll have to unbunch those panties before you chuck them at a gadgey

Office development in Sunderland is by far the most important priority.

Nothing else would be viable anyway.
That's positive.

Who is going to be frequenting these places? They'd die on their arse. You need an established workforce in the city centre for anything like that to be viable.
That's positive
