VARguments

If they used it as originally intended there wouldn't be any issues. IMO it is only to be used in a CLEAR situation where the ref has made a mistake

This is the crux of it, only clear and obvious errors should go to VAR, marginal calls i.e. where there is any element of doubt, should be ignored and the ref's original decision should stand.

Would the ref have spotted it?
Who knows? It's the law that's the big issue. Same with offsides
Do you keep saying that in between singing la la la and sticking your fingers in your ears?
People arent grasping that if the law wasnt changed then it would have been allowed? I agree var is far far from perfect. But its not to blame for that goal being disallowed or an offside goal by somebody's nostril. It's the laws that are a joke.

Who decides what constitutes clear and obvious? You will just end up with managers crying every single week about stuff not getting referred when another team got a decision referred the week before and all the accusation of inconsistency starts all over again.

Fans and managers have brought all this sh*t, and particularly the handball rule on themselves by crying constantly about consistency. Consistent refereeing decisions in football will never, ever be possible unless you have completely black and white laws which is inevitably what we are heading towards.
Handball today in the city game isnt vars fault. It's the laws that are ridiculous

You do realise though that the law was changed in order to allow for the clarity in VAR decisions.

We arent using it properly in this country. Fifa came out and said the referee needs to be going to view incidents pitch side but they arent bothering

Exactly. I just don't understand why people don't see this. They keep banging on about 'clear and obvious' like it's a universally accepted standard. Take the Rodri penalty today. If that is deemed a clear and obvious error it will open the floodgates to every single manager going mental about their penalty claims not being entertained.

Can you explain why the referee running over to look at a screen would benefit the situation in any way when you already have 3 officials who have already seen it 3 times from different angles in the peace and quiet of a studio, wired up directly to the referees ear. Why would you want a referee with 15 players in his face, under pressure from thousands of fans to just then go and do exactly the same? Is it the extra 2 minute delay that appeals to you?
