yea, it was very interesting post mate and you made some great points.Yes it's an image off Twitter I've hoyed lines on a frame later. The ball has moved slightly but not the feet of the players and if anything, it's Bissaka who would have moved more as Coventry player is more static. I just didn't say as my post was already an essay!
Maradona did...Can you score with your hand?
Literally the only way to stop fans moaning about handballs and coming out with sh*t like 'no one knows the rules anymore'. It's pathetic that we will end up having to implement sh*te rules like the one you are suggesting to appease the childish football public.
Bring back the goal moochers![]()
Yet Dodds would still play for a 0 - 0.Just abolish offside. It’ll be great. It’ll make the top coaches have to rethink their entire way of playing. Be hellish
The rules are clear but the interpretation of incidences are very subjective and people can’t cope with that. It’s understandable. I really don’t think it’s that stupid to just say if it hits the arm, it’s handball. Then subjectivity is taken out of it. You’d see loads more penalties and free kicks but who doesn’t like more goals being scored? I’d happily see some 7-5s
So you've just moved the line of contention back about 2 feet, so now what? They need to look at what the offside law was brought in for - presumably to stop goal-hanging.
Nobody’s going to do that so imo it needs a rethink. The obvious solution being the opposite way round so as long as the attacker has one part of his body equal to the last defender he is ok.

Irrespective of the outcome, VAR simply being there ruined that moment. Injury time winner to complete one of the best come backs in FA Cup history, championship side against Man Utd, their whole end erupted!
Then after all that, everyone stands around for a few minutes while we wait for someone to start drawing lines. Even if that turned out to be onside by a fraction, the whole celebration was ruined completely.
I’ve never been a fan of VAR and would happily see it binned off. Refereeing decisions were just a part of the game, you win some you lose some.
Now we still have the same incompetence and frustrations, but without the raw emotion that moments like that should bring to the game. Shite imo
You could make a case that it's the defenders responsibility to avoid it hitting their arm but you'd get players actively trying to fire the ball against a hand. It'd be a very unsatisfactory solution imo.
The handball rule should be completely subjective and amount to one simple question...
Has the player sought to gain an advantage by using their arm?
Simple judgement. Get on with it.
Pre VAR the headline of the game would be that United were robbed by a shocking mistake from the linesman. There'd be talk of Man Utd suing the FA and a replay. You'd get a clamour for VAR to stop these mistakes in the future. We'd be back in that world as soon as VAR is scrapped.
So you are saying they should choose to ignore the rules so it’s more entertaining? They’ve killed the game stone dead. That decision today is a disgrace. A toenail offside and you take away what would have been one of the most amazing FA cup stories of all time .
And the people who make the decisions won’t care one bit .
Thank god we don’t have it in and if they utter one word regarding bringing it in to the Championship and lower leagues we should protest to the point they have to listen
Subjective though. Unless they introduce the brain technology that Jim Carrey’s Riddler used in Batman Forever.
If players are skilful enough to kick it off the arm, they’ve earned their penalty. And more goals = more drama = more entertainment.
That didn’t happen before.
You may know but there are others who don't know this part of the offside rule. It's not when the ball leaves the foot, it's the first point of contact with the ball so a scooped up pass would be earlier for example. Its interesting , it looks level but if you go down to pixels its off side, but look at the player kicking the ball, has the ball left the foot of the player, is that the moment the ball was kicked to draw the line? It was noted by someone on the thread the picture is on that a milli second later and the man u player would be playing him on side, so is that the right frame to draw the lines on?
Linesman are told to not make calls now, just in case, so we will never know if the linesman would have flagged up, mind I think it was a harsh pen.
its very subjective still and a lot depends on when the action is frozen for the lines to be drawn.
Spot on. The way the rules are currently written they have to disallow the goal as he’s offisde. Are people really saying we should ignore offsides because they want a spectacle or exciting moment? For that matter we could change the offside rule to allow offsides if it's only inches...
VAR isn't the problem, it's the incompetent refs who can't use it properly. Pretty much all sports have it but it's only footy that can't utilise it properly.
That's a fact - totally agreeSay what you want its ruined football. Hopefully it doesn't stay around forever and branch into the championship. What a joke every single match I watch
