Unnecessary companions in films/TV shows?

I can’t stand Conan O Brien but his fart catcher Andy Richter is even worse. Imagine your whole life’s work following around an unfunny ginger wanker feeding off his scraps.

Chris in Family Guy - utterly not funny and has a stupid voice to boot.

Luke in Modern Family. As a porky kid he was a foil for Phil but when his balls dropped his face grew to about three feet long and he turned into a pointless lisping twittering ponce. Lilly doesn’t have much to do but at least gets the occasional zinger in. The baby was a mistake and a clear sign the show was jumping the shark.

Penfold.

The black 007 in No Time To Die. Remove all her scenes and you lose nothing. Ugly, dumpy, pointless. If the plan was virtue signaling we already had a female M, a Black Felix, a Black Moneypenny and an implied gay Q - is that not enough?

There were six subordinate team members in Miami Vice. On the TV show they all got something to do but in a two hour film there wasn’t enough for them all to play a decent role. At one point all six of them go round to Nicholas’s gaff to coerce him to set up a meeting with the drug dealer. Was that necessary? (We were also treated in that scene to scintillating dialogue which included “I’ll bust a cap in yo’ ass” and “don’t do the crime if you won’t do the time”).
