Await the 'I'm not a racist but I've noticed more non-white faces in Sunderland recently' threads.

I tell all of the kids of friends to go to university in the NE. Good quality universities (even Newcastle is OK) plus low cost of living and a good social scene.

The problem for the NE economy has always been hanging onto those graduates afterwards when the vast majority will head back down south for jobs. Other cities and regions are much better at turning graduates into local workers.

I have a question, if I may?

In September 2025, the University’s lease on Clanny House, one of our student accommodation blocks, comes to an end and cannot be renewed.
As a result, and subject to an acceptable cost via the procurement process, the University has decided to refurbish and reopen The Precinct on Chester Road, near the City Campus. This was previously University student accommodation but was closed in 2016.

Looks like they have started work on this.

Doesn't look they have decided on what to do with the mothballed Forster building ?

Teaching facilities again or student accommodation with the influx of all all the new students on the medical related degrees.

Work started on Precinct on Monday.

No need to re-open Forster it's on the edge of the city campus plan (the plan that would have closed Murray Library now Murray Health for being to far out of the "city campus"), plenty of teaching space in Murray with more available once work is completed at St Peter over the next 2 years.

What an amazing facility that looks like now. I remember the library 20 years ago and it was half decent then but looks superb now.

Are they getting rid of the library and making it for medical students?
