Turning your back on football?

I only ever watch Sunderland and Scotland these days, and probably watch more golf than football on TV.

UEFA's concept of having matches on every bloody day of the week made me sick of it, and if things continue to go as they are, with World Cups every 2 years, club world cup, UEFA-CONMEBOL championships, European Super leagues, expanded UEFA competitions, domestic matches abroad, murderous dictators buying clubs for PR, then I genuinely wonder where my interests will lie in 10-15 years time.

It's got to the stage where my Mrs will say"There's football on tonight", and I say "Nar, it's alright. Watch bake off if you want. I'm reading my book".

I tend to watch more cricket than football now. Haven’t got any interest in the champions league now, only really watch the semis/final etc.

Used to watch every game I could over a weekend. But since the bairns come I don’t really bother.

Only interested in Sunderland really, would imagine I’ll always have my ST.

I'm torn really. On the one hand I want my team to do well and get promoted into the championship, but once we've achieved that its a case of chasing the Premier dream, which ends up going to watch us get beat more often than winning and just being able to compete.catch 22 really.

It's called "real life" mate. Catches up with us all in the end😆.

Do you know anyone who has just said, sod this and walked away from football.

They are sick of the way the game has gone, the money, the pretty much no chance of winning anything for your team. So much so that they just say fuck it. They don't talk about it, post about it, just live their lives as if football doesn't exist.

I haven't. I do know a couple of people who don't have any interest in football and have always been that way.
I walked out the ground against Southampton in the Alladryce season. After going to 100s of away games, pre seasons to Hong Kong and Canada, season ticket for years - the game against Cheltenham the other week was my first time back.
I can honestly say walking away from football was one of the best things I ever did.
I no longer have that gutting feeling when we lose, but also no longer have that high when we win. I keep an eye on our results but that's it really now. As I choose not to go to the games I no longer consider myself a proper fan anymore.

When Covid hit and football stopped I was on a right downer. Began to appreciate what I was missing . The pre match drinking of several pints with all the craic to me the best part of the day. ( mostly The Avenue .. brilliant pub pre match ) . The buzz of going to the ground, grabbing a pie or burger from the vans and deciding if you could handle one more in the Hilton .??

You cant beat supporting your local team on a Saturday . Whoever they are.

Lockdown taught me what i missed in life but now I cant stop drinking cans at home. Help

I used to live and breath it.
I don't go to the games anymore, just watch on telly.
I don't really care if I miss individual games anymore

But not caring about it at all ever again. Nah.

Sort of looking forward to my kids getting hooked on it, I think it'll be great.

I doubt that very much mate. Nowt against Sunderland, but you don't switch allegiance to your biggest rivals. I can't imagine anyone doing that.
.. Brother in laws farther did .. Started going to Sunderland games as there was always trouble at Newcastle games. Long time ago mind ..

I dont watch Internationals , prem league , MOTD and stopped managing about 7 year or so back. Only watch us and quest.
MOTD and Sky Sports are absolutely perfect examples of mind numbing ennui.

Cheating footballers, never ending VAR, endless replays of goals, tackles, fouls etc. How dim do they think we are?

Jokey self-aggrandisment from the studio collection of ex-footballer drunks and clowns; the commentators, who presumably assume that we cannot read a shirt-back name and number or the time, numb our enjoyment of the game with their banale / mind numbing and frequently inaccurate comments. I just want to watch the game, even when I must listen to the kow-towing to and arse licking of the "big" teams.... And to hell with the rest.

The endless dishonesty of the Football Association and the Football League, almost always for monetary gain.

The contempt for us, the fans. At every possible opportunity. I exclude our new owners from that.

I agree. It was bad when I last watched MOTD and that must have been about 7 year ago.

It's been longer since I watched football focus.

I loved football on t.v when I was younger. Cup final day was drawn out but that was the fun of it then as it was a one off.

Possibly I'm getting old and nostalgic

This is me too.
