Travelling by Car to Wembley

I'm not being funny but if you're struggling to get from South Shields to the A1, are you are going to be ok driving to London? Maybe look at the trains or buses and leave the car at home.

I've been driving about 25 years and my job involves a lot of driving. Even with all that experience, I wouldn't drive to London and back in one day. I did Coventry and back in a day and found that really tiring.

When I moved back from London to the North East I had a nightmare 36 hours........Planned to drive up to North East in Car then Hire van and drive back to London to get rest of my stuff......Hire Prices in North East were about a 3rd of price of those in London.

All going well, nice drive up in car (5 hours), went to go hire van and realised my driving licence was still in London.......Had to drive back to London (5 hours), grab my driving licence, drive back to Sunderland (5 hours), pick up the van, drive back down to London (5 hours) fill van up with our staff and back up to Sunderland (5 hours)

Love that road me.

You brought your staff up with you. Butler, cook, gardener etc?

A fortnight ago we weren't on top of the world. The team still had a bit to do to convince me we have a good set of players. Now they have and we have played some of the best football I have seen in years I think if we are playing to how we have done for most of the season lately and we can do OK.

Welcome onboard fella, the magic carpet might come out of mothballs, if we keep going!

That reminds of going to a Cup game at Stoke in the mid-70s. On the M62, overtake one of buses from "Ponderosa Coaches". Whole car starts belting out the Bonanza theme tune. Noticed them turning off, and wondered where they were going. It was, of course, the M6 turnoff which we hadn't seen being too busy singing Bonanza. Couldn't turn round until Salford and then overtook a couple of Man U coaches. They saw the red and white scarves and starting waving at us - must have been surprised when they had a carload flicking the V's at them.

After my 18th in blackpool missed the a66 turnoff on the m6, have a look how far it is till the next exit, thought my whole world had caved in!

To those who are driving down what are everyone's plans (when do you plan on leaving etc) and how do you intend to manage fuel consumption? The last bit I know may sound daft but it is important. I don't want to run out just short of Newport Pagnell.

I am driving down and so far my only plan is to (stupid and perhaps desperate I know) use a coach as a sort of pacemaker. If I keep track of it I know I will get to Wembley in time. I have no idea what time I should be leaving or how many fuel stops I need.
If your that worried, take the bus.:)

I bet if if was anyone else you would be inundating them with help and advice instead of this shit.

Mods, please delete this thread.

Use google maps on your mobile. (If you haven’t already got a car charger for your phone, buy one so that your battery isn’t dead when you try to take a pic of wembley).

Put the route in well beforehand to get an indicative journey time and to familiarise yourself with the route.

Decide where you’re parking and put that as the destination, not Wembley.

Setting off at 7am with a picnic breakfast, sat nav says 4hrs 37mins to hotel carpark, gonna take the kids to Buckingham palace and Big Ben etc then Converge on Covent Garden or Trafalgar Square with the rest of you, back to hotel at a decent time with sprogs and then up breakfast and a walk down Wembley way

Pre mobile days a mate was an apprentice doing a job in stranraer. Needed a part from manufacturer in southampton! Engineer sent him for it, took about 24 hours.

Was a friday on way back, just entering stranraer n the engineer, sick of waiting, had decided to feck off home for the weekend instead n flew past him in the other van.

first time I ever drove to Stamford bridge pre sat nav days got lost in London and decided to follow a car whose back window was plastered with Chelsea stickers, ended up miles from the ground in a tower block car park watching the driver in his Chelsea top carrying his shopping up to his flat

Please, don't go within a million miles of me if your anything like your online persona.

Not much chance of that mate, you will probably still be trying to get out of your street if this thread is reflective of your actual ability to organise yourself for what is a simple trip. Probably best and safest to stay at home and watch it on Sky, that way you might avoid ending up in Prague
