Too soon for Henderson to come back?

He didn’t need the money when he went to Saudi.
He didn’t need the money when he went to Ajax for £70k-£85k a week plus bonuses.

He quite happily took the money, though.

But suddenly, some think he’ll come to us for £3 a week and a packet of Haribo ‘ cos he loves us’

Aye, right.
Was perfect opportunity to come back when he left Liverpool, he had enough money and hometown lad coming back to his club the media would have lapped it up but he fucked it.

I wouldn't have the sportswasher back and I don't think he would do well in the championship. His biggest strength was his engine and his ability to run all over the place, and he lost that a couple of years ago.

no, the decision was terrible, but that doesn’t make him a terrible person. I’d like to see him acknowledge it was a poor decision though.

Everyone seems to have forgiven Ivan Toney…

Why? Is there talk of Toney joining us ? 🙄

You don’t see the difference between a player who quite likely is/was addicted to gambling and blew hundreds of thousands of £££ for which he was banned for eight months - and a player who did virtue signalling for LBGTQ+ rights, then decided ‘ Fuck it, forget that shite, I can make fortunes going to Saudi ‘ ?

Toney never put himself up as some figurehead, Henderson did.

I have nothing against the lad but Leadbitter's second stint with us was pants. If Henderson came back I can see a similar situation.
Yeah I do think that'd be a real possibility, whilst his ability with the ball has always been massively under-rated by his critics the biggest asset to his game was his ability to press opposing players and win the ball back quickly and if he's lost anything in his legs it takes away a big part of what made him so effective at his peak. He clearly had a pretty rapid drop-off during his last 18 month or so at Liverpool and by all accounts was rubbish both in Saudi and for Ajax last season.

Agreed. Henderson would be a cut above the championship like Leadbitter was a cut above league one. He was pretty ineffective if we’re being honest and the championship these days is full of much younger, quicker and stronger midfielders.

Even putting aside the moral aspect of Henderson's move to Saudi;

1. He chose to take the money to play in front of 600 people in a country that doesn't care about football. Why would he take a approximately £60,000 per week pay cut to come here?

And

2. Can he still play? Seems like he's on the way down to me, his best attribute was always how much ground he covered.

I did say on another part that from a purely footballing standpoint he would still have a lot to offer. It’s just the political history bit I feel uncomfortable with, and no I’m not at all bothered by the Saudi episode.
Political history? But not the Saudi episode?
What political history then? Was he a member of the National Front before joining the Academy like?

Evans was effective for us in the championship and didn’t run miles.

I can understand those having issue with Jordan in his Saudi shenanigans which of course he shouldn’t have done. However he would be a fantastic addition to this squad and gives us exactly what we need to support the development of the younger players.

He knows he messed up royally by taking the Saudi tainted cash.

He’s not going to get a more PR friendly narrative to rebuild his reputation than leading his childhood club back to the Premier League.

There’s a Netflix documentary in there.

Or he can chase another payday at a relegation fodder nothingness club.

And he should have learned the perils of chasing additional riches!

Speak for yourself. I didn't watch a moment of the world cup and got pelters for it.

Good for you. I admire your principles. Do you have a dislike for every footballer who chose to play in that world cup as well as all the ones who have chosen to play on Saudi?

Are corrupt nations where you draw the line or do you refuse to buy things from Apple, Nike and the like because of their exploitation of child labour?

I would love to see Henderson back here and I really struggle with people who think this wouldn’t be good for the club

Aye his legs might be going but his experience is exactly what we’ve missed recently, he’d be a calming influence in tough games

He’s won it all at club level and having someone like that around the club can only be beneficial. He’d raise the standard in training and guide younger players

I still think he’d piss the championship
