Tinnitus



The guidance I was given - particularly in the early days whilst the brain is habitualising - was to cause, create or concentrate on an external sound.

This is why people use white noise, sleep with fans on, leave the telly or radio on etc. It’s less ‘scary’ or ‘normal’ for the brain to accommodate an externally generated sound. It can be ignored and filtered. It’s more usual for the brain to interpret an “internal” noise as indicative of something wrong. So it’s harder to filter out. Especially if you try.
