Tinnitus

I suffer with it on and off. Right now it’s pretty bad. It’s two years since I had the wax sucked out of my ears but don’t think that wax is the problem at the moment.
Anyone got any ideas how to reduce tinnitus other than chopping my lugs off ?

Me too. Had it for years. I didn't find a masking device helpful. The main issue was and still is at times trying to get to sleep. I find that music, rather than any 'relaxing' sounds work for me. I listen to a lot of audio books and podcasts, just to get sounds that aren't my tinnitus in my head. Try not to 'listen' to your tinnitus is my possibly unhelpful advice.

I have to sleep with the radio on on a night, on a timer so it goes off eventually after I’ve fell asleep.
A mate of mine had it bad, dizzy spells.
He had an acid squirted into his ear as a remedy but didn’t work that well.
If I think about it it’s worse and after I’ve seen a music concert it’s mental.

Had it a few years, dunno wtf you can do as music etc only thing that drowns it out for me, however if you already have a headache music won't help..

It's annoying as fuck like, never know complete silence again...

It’s kicking off headaches at the moment, It’s pretty mental tbh.
Doctor advised me to get some Sterimar nasal hygien spray and use three times a day, keeps your little tubes clean. Do not attack it by the ears, also if you're getting headaches just check you haven't got a cardio vascular problem, I've got a restriction in my right carotide.

Mentioned this before, but my brother and I were born with the condition. Didn’t know this until recently mind, but apparently because we were premature birth one of the side effects is tinnitus. So had this noise all our lives, and naturally we both thought it was natural, but a real pain in the arse!

For a long time whilst we we were growing up our parents thought there was something wrong with our hearing because we didn’t seem to be paying attention all the time, teachers saying we appeared distracted in class. Took us to various hearing specialists but couldn’t find anything wrong.

It wasn’t until I was in my 30s that whilst watching something on the telly which was about tinnitus that realised what the noise was. You have no idea who relieved I was to find out this noise I’ve had all my life wasn’t natural! I showed the programme to my Mam, and her reaction was mixed relief and anger, because for years she tried to get hearing doctors to take her seriously and kept treating her like an overprotective parent.

48 y.o. now and I’d say for the last 20 (ish) years has started to effect my level of hearing ability. Certain frequencies are completely gone now, hearing in groups is nearly impossible and I have to be looking at the person to get fully what they saying. My bosses is a mumbler who likes talking with with chin resting on his hand and muffles his speech - there are many times I have to ask him to repeat what he has said but first take his hand away.

The short video below has some short audio sounds of what tinnitus is like. Mine at the moment is like the one at 52 seconds... and also at 1min 20 secs

Stand next to a loud speaker next time you are in a bar
