I didn't know of that rule. Back in 2012 at Belmont when the club had enough players to put out 3 weekend teams, we flirted with idea of applying to the HLSCL. Would have had no chance. It's hard enough picking a team without age restrictions. Excellent idea but it must be a nightmare for some clubs in this day and age.Awful to see clubs struggle
The HLSCL dispensation rule not great in encouraging clubs to run team should be based on individuals and not across the board rule

Might just be rumour, tbh I really hope it is just rumour. Not a good situation if it's true though.
And they wonder why lads stop playing. Leagues need to have a think and decide whether they love the game more than their own daft rules. If it's the latter, then they can't complain when clubs go under. Personally, and I'm off on a tangent here but, I take great pleasure in captaining lads who obviously love playing, are limited at best, but turn up every week. You've got to keep the thing going or we'll see teams folding in large numbers. Until The Hundred saves us all of course. It's a rule regarding playing 4 first team games where regardless of contrition you then can't play on a Sunday
We have lads helping out who bat 10 or 11 and don't bowl but are disqualified
Total nonsense
Somethings not right if one of the North Easts most successful sides in the last 20 years can't field an under 15's or 18's
There are 3 teams in the DCL with no junior set up at all. How on earth with they survive in 5 / 6 years time as lads retire /move elsewhere. At least the NEPL is forcing teams to try and develop juniors instead of it being oppotional
Unfortunately a sign of the times and big problems ahead for us all
It was part of the conditions of joining the league. The NEPL will support clubs through sticky patches but don' want clubs to try. It's ironic that a team can pay 5/6 players to play on a Saturday but struggle to keep older juniors in the game.In the circumstances with clubs clearly struggling, the NEPL should be more flexible and understanding and should not be forcing clubs to do anything.
Of course clubs want to try and develop juniors, by forcing them to do so, will not magically mean that kids now become interested in cricket.
Clubs in trouble need to be the supported not told what they have to do.

Developing junior sides is a massive resource both time and money and for me the NEPL are making it mandtory so clubs do the right thing for the long term before they spend 10k on an overseas player for example
This isn't a dig at Burnmoor by the way as I know how hard they are working with the juniors and have a canny little set up. A lot of clubs in the same boat at the moment but the answer isn't to allow clubs not to invest in juniors in my opinion
Sad to see but you can't force kids to play
Cricket is not promoted enough in schools is not on terrestrial tv enough
Most kids get into cricket because their dads like it or they live near a ground
Sadly sign of the times with other things to do. It's difficult for clubs to engage young people
Very true but dont forget local football having summer leagues as well is making kids choose between the sports which is imo not on.
When i was a kid it was always footy in the winter and then cricket for the summer - now kids are potentially playing footy all year round.
