You refused correctly. The remake is an absolute disgrace
That's my view on it as well. It lost the plot a bit towards the end, and the actual ending was shit. Okay overall.

Finished it night and throughly enjoyed it. Plenty of plot twists/developments that I didn't see coming.
Episode 5 made fine sense to me as he got his memories back in the fitm of opening doors in a corridor.
(try twin peaks 3, episode 8 if you want mental batshit crazy tv).
Also thought the ending was decent as it was left open, not for a second series but more for the viewer to decide if they wanted a happy sad or indifferent end.
All in all, a good piece of telly.
