The new bridge

A tad condescending there.

Don’t mean it in that way, but what I do know is that a lot of people in Sunderland are cynical, disillusioned and he "confirms" their attitudes towards the local authorities in an embolding way.

He seems similar to the Durham Cobbler from a few years ago. Shouts loudly and repeatedly so that people react.

Are Lens informants the same type of people who spout utter shite on here and Twitter with their transfer stories.
Take owt Len says with a massive pinch of salt.

Surely that's the responsibility of the engineers and not the Council anyway.

I assume we paid for a bridge that doesn't sink and a bridge that doesn't sink should be what we get.

god can sunderland city council not even design and build a £100million bridge these days? hopeless. the councils chief bridge designer wants sacking. probably get a pay rise knowing our council cos he's a nonce

Does this role exist? Didnt think the council designed it

Should still be this month. They’re mooting the idea of opening it to pedestrians only for a couple of days first, but I don’t know if that’s set in stone.
Surely would have been better to try and get it open for the tall ships craic? Sunderland Council man

Do you think people now just feed him utter bollocks about anything, but include that it's being covered up by Sunderland City Council, to see if he's actually f***ing stupid enough to repeat it? That bridge story certainly looks like it's possible!

Rope bridge, FFS, the stupid bastard.
I do. I reckon the paint being a cover story gives it away.

Defeats the object if the pinch is massive as then it makes a difference

Building control will still have a big say in it.

One is its Sinking??? Most messages I receive are backing this one up. I was talking to someone who was working on the new bridge and they told me that it has no expansion joints built in, and with it being a rope bridge it moves considerably in the wind.
"

The main pylon is a distinct structure relative to the bridge deck. Any differential movement due to coefficient of thermal expansion of the steelwork will be taken within the catenary action of the cable stays.

The bridge deck should have expansion joints as this will also expand in Warner temperatures, but this is in the horizontal and will normally be at the abutments then at set centres along the deck. The two above have no bearing on each other.

I'm sure the foundation under the pylon is piled, so unless there is some form of failure, that will not move, not even due to consolidation beneath the found.

There are far bigger steel structures which do not include expansion joints as this is generally dealt with within the design.
All welds should have been fully NDT'd before it left the yard for the UK, so if a well has failed, then it's most likely a design fault where the load path calculation isn't correct, but I can't imagine that is the case, mainly as the bridge isn't open yet so the loading to date is less than design load and factors of safety.

You'd also see welders up there if they were repairing welds.

In summary, he's full of shite.

I'd suggest this is too specialised for BC and the council will have appointed a third party independent.
