The Hundred - Free tickets

The KP Invincibles and the McCoy's Originals.

It's appealing to the youth(ish) market, or attempting to.
Issue is if it does work and gets youth into it they then play T20 cricket if they join a team, so then they need to learn those rules which they claim are too complicated to understand hence this format. Could have just pumped the money into T20 blast, rearrange a few things so its perfectly timed for summer holidays and ends before the football begins.

That would have been sensible. Have a franchise based T20 tournament, as opposed to county based. It's worked everywhere else, no need to change the basics.

Interviewer: What have you enjoyed about the cricket?

Spectator: The fireworks.

The ECB could have just saved their money and put on a fireworks display.

I'm giving it a season before it dies a death.
Eldorado.
Yeah hence my point.

Having them going up the side of the screen is jarring.

Not even the same height. As I've turned on later I assumed they got bigger as the runs and balls went up. But doesn't appear that way.

Vaughan was trying to claim 10,000 spectators. Not a f***ing chance
The IPL graphics are just as bad, as are the garish playing kits.

Could have just used the counties to keep the traditional fans happy, dont need to play everyone just have 5 or 6 games a team, top 8 into knock out rounds, run rate decides equal sides so bigger hitting, easily fit it all into 6 weeks with a few double headers on weekends.

Instead they invented a new format and spent £65m and annoyed atleast 50% of the traditional fan base.

I just don't get the need to dumb down everything.
If that was what's needed then surely the T20 could have been rebranded/franchise based.

Isn't that essentially what the T20 Blast has been about for years now? The idea that the players are in the team for this competition only and teams are city based seems to be appealing worldwide. I'm just not sure about the change to 100 balls with 5 to an over/set (or whatever).

But we had that in the blast for years and its not working. England relies more on its internationals for funding then any other cricketing country in the world. Basically all of the counties are in the red, and the average age of those watching cricket is getting older and older (it’s also the only major sport in Britain with a fan base going down I remember reading).

The ECB had to do something. Maybe this will work, maybe it won’t. But if this doesn’t work then they’ll have to try something else.
