In which case you should give it the chance to see if interest is sustained rather than writing it off before a ball has been bowled.

The ex-players in the media have barely uttered a negative word about the hundred - there’s the difference. Why have they been quiet/complicit? The key ones are employed by Sky, who are screening most of the games which should have been on terrestrial TV to make any sense of this competition.

They are going to throw every penny they have at thus, and when that isn't enough they will throw every penny they can borrow.3500 paying fans for a women's domestic game? that probably tops some of our crowds. i despise the 16.4 as much as anyone but i dunno. maybe i just can't get angry about it now, like i've accepted defeat. it's an absolute shambles but it's where we are.
i'm disgusted by the difference in reaction, there was a national outcry over the totally-to-be-expected super league in footy and that got rolled over so fast. FTECB has basically signed the death warrant of county championship cricket, 50 over stuff (shortly after achieving their openly admitted years long pursuit of winning the world title) and is trying to steamroll the global phenom and far and away most popular format in t20.. and what was the reaction? a few snarky comments in online articles and largely silent acceptance from british media and players. it's f***ing shocking.

Such a colossal waste of resources, this sham will never repay the amount it takes away. We all know that if it does take off, the money is not going back into the game.
Don't think you can compare this to football though. The whole point of the 16.4 is to destroy the County game, not enhance it. We know how precarious finances can be and I wonder how long some will survive after having the game taken away from them during the peak season. And having their own players stolen in order to do it.
As you said, I think I'm already resigned to defeat. They only need a couple of clubs to fold, Durham and Kent, Leicester, Northants perhaps, and its game over. That will be me done with cricket.
Don't like to think about it too much as I just get angry at people who support this sham, and I'd rather not waste my time on them.
Because that would be the counties. This is about killing the counties, not helping the game.
They tried to claim there was no TV company willing to show T20, in order to justify it. And when they were called out they swiftly backtracked and dropped that particular claim never to be mentioned again.

The BBC were meant to insist on franchises (according to Simon Hughes who has no reason to lie). They were open on the format as they signed up before 100 balls was decided.

The thing you’ve linked there doesn’t debunk anything as far as I can see? And who is Hughes working for during the tournament to make him on the payroll or whatever? He’s been critical of lots of it.

He made the claim when he helped develop the idea back in 2017. I don't think he's on the payroll now, hence he's backed away from the TV row and is critical of of whole idea.
So he was all for it when he was in on it, and isn't now he's out.

i don't think the idea of the super league was to enhance the premiership or serie A etc either. i think it's a perfect analogy and shows just how a bit of media coverage can shift perspective and the deafening silence from all around the game in the cricket was a real kick in the teeth. frankly i'm disgusted that the owners, staff, players etc for each and every county who should be standing up for the rights of each and every member and fan of their county just turned their back on protecting the game for the fans.
there is no way those in power at any of the counties without a team can convince me that this is what their paying customers want.
when we decided to consign Durham County Cricket Club to history and rebrand as durham cricket and ditch the badge for a stupid cartoon lion i was horrified but got on with it. but this is a betrayal far beyond that. to be honest the more i think about it, the more i want to just fuck it all off.
wonder if i can ask for my gold membership back.

You can’t compare it to football or the super league for one clear and obvious reason.
Football is thriving at ground level and amongst youngsters, so much so that youngsters are playing football in the summer.
The point been at club level cricket has less participation than it ever has ,and needs more participation and interest.
Football needs no further interest in fact too much interest in football means less interest in cricket

strikes me as throwing the baby out with the bathwater. i guess if you think sacrificing county championship and all domestic cricket in favour of the 16.4 and local league will be better for participation. i guess you can add international formats too as where are the test or 50 over players going to come from?
funny how the rest of the world don't find t20 too complicated. i guess we're aiming for that uncatered for neanderthal demographic

The difference though, is that the Super League was to be another layer on top. It wasn't designed to put Sunderland out of business. The 16.4 is actively designed to destroy Durham.
Also, they weren't insisting that Sunderland stop playing for a month in the middle of the season, and they weren't planning to nick our players.
I do find it amusing that the defence of this is that the tens of millions being sucked out of the game, and removing cricket from half the country, will - somehow - end up with more money being invested in grass roots cricket and then more participation off the back of that. Its an insane bit of logic.
I hope it fails, and as quickly as possible so the damage is limited, and hope everyone backing it is suitably ashamed. But I fear the worst.

I simply have seen club cricket participation get worse and worse year after year and that is my primary concern.
That is fact not opinion.
Something needs to be done to turn the tide, whether the hundred changes that tide is probably doubtful.
As it is hard enough these days made even harder by people slaughtering the hundred before it’s even started!
It’s simple for me club cricket more important than county cricket.
I have said before and will say it again the very people praising T20 were the ones heavily slaughtering it when it first arrived.
If they had their way we would not even have had T20 cricket which without a doubt has been a success
T20 apparently was ‘hit and giggle’ pyjama cricket, ‘ not proper cricket’

The very people praising the 16.4 wanted Test cricket to be abolished when T20 came along.
If they had their way there'd be no England test side, which without a doubt has been a success.
If we're going to make silly claims that are pure conjecture, ^^ there's one that's just as good as yours.

Nobody has ever said test cricket or want it abolished, and all accept test cricket like ‘ The Ashes’ should always be number one!
Yet people did call T20 ‘hit and giggle’ not proper cricket etc etc and criticized it plenty of times.
It’s not conjecture at all its fact as remember discussions on here having a go a T20 many times, granted a lot of years ago now, but never a less it’s a fact.
Also nobody is praising the hundred, some just want to see how it pans out give it a chance.
Some people don’t praise or criticize anything till they have actually seen it

Was this board going pre T20 in 2002/3? I certainly wasn't here then anyway.
And as I've said to you many many many times, I couldn't give a shit about the format. 120 balls down to 100 balls, who cares? And it very much is hit and giggle, it's a much watered down, batsman orientated version of cricket.
You need to look at social media, there are hundreds if not thousands of paid accounts saying how great the 16.4 is going to be, there's people praising it everywhere.
We've agreed to differ on this before. You think sucking tens of millions of pounds out of the game, telling existing fans to fuck off, and removing cricket from half the country is worth a try. I think it's insanity.

Hway mate, although of course it was well after 2002 there was posters on here always having a go at T20.
You know that as well as me, at least have the good grace to admit it.
Remember having one particular debate years ago saying it should not be happening because they were not wearing whites!
My claim that people did not want T20 is no way near as absurd as you saying people don’t want test cricket and furthermore I suspect you know that!
Of course I respect your over all view as been a county cricket fan the damage this could do to county cricket and have empathy towards loyal fans like yourself of county cricket.
But at the end of the day my concern is club cricket, something needs to be done to stop the slide of clubs folding struggling to get sides out.
The hundred may not be the answer as very difficult to stop that slide, but me personally I am pleased something is been tried.
